If the government want to rake on taxes, they should focus on real-estate taxes. A lot of Ghanaians are evading taxes in that area. The houses should be mapped electronically and tax base on footage.

Look, in European Union, if you carry just ONE NEW mobile phone (or any other electronic device) and you bought the product outside the EU, you have to pay DUTY on it. It does not matter who is going to use it, be it yourself, Jesus or God. In the pre-Brexit era, products from UK were exempted from duty, but currently the duty on products from UK is very heavy.

The fact that you are carrying NEW phones for some relatives DO NOT EXEMPT you from paying duty on them.

Ghanaians ALWAYS have reason to argue on how violate laws and regulations. How can your country develop with such a mindset?

I was in Dakar, Senegal last month with 7 phones. Once they were not in their original packages and I told them they're for friends, the Douaniers said nothing.

I had close relations in the CEPS, all they did was extort travelers and took items they even didn't need. We almost always ended in fight anytime I mentioned corruption in Ghana. Check, it would surprise you to know how many houses each of those thieves at the GRA have.
