This my rejoinder is to the incoming Minister of Agriculture,Clement Kofi Humado.

It is very strange indeed that if Mr Humado is an enlighten person he will advocate for such dangerous path in a country like Ghana. If well developed countries like the UK, Germany and others are closing in on those companies who practised such method of farming, then does he argue that Ghana must follow such methods. The fact is such method of farming is a killer.

Seemingly, I do not know the educational background of Mr Humado but his speaking is very bad,careless and dangerous. Considering the state of Ghana's environment. Specifically regarding Ghanaian farmers education, knowledge in mechanised and large
farming systems.

I am writing from London, where such method of farming is vehemently rejected by the population here. Not only that but including large farmers too.

My question is, does Mr Humado belongs
to the ILLUMINATTI, and therefore acting on behalf of MANSANTO? Thus, his wishes are against the population/citizens of Ghana. His appointment must be look into before it is confirmed, for it is bad for Ghanaians.

I am from the USA and I can say that GMOs are our largest and worst scurge on foreign countries. This minister is obviously taking bribes from MONSANTO or DOW. The poeple of Ghana must rise up against this tyranny from the US ...

Obviously this man is unaware of the application of new information technology to agriculture. If Humado is unaware of the current revolution in organic agricultural production talking place throughout the world, he shouldn't be confirmed as Ghana's Minister of Agriculture. What we need is sustainable agricultural production to boost our supply of safe food, fuel and fibre.
Has nothing to offer on initiating new agribusiness and industries.

It is unthinkable that a Minnister would throw his support behind this kind of undertaking. GMOs have been ddecried in the United States where it originated. Europeans have rejected imports of GMO foods from the US and local farmers are complaining of the comingling of seeds that destroy non-GMO seeds and crops. Unless the Minister has had his pockets linned by GMO advocates, it will be unthinkable why ahe should tout the virtues of GMO seeds, virtues that are only profit-oriented.

No, no, no to GMO!!!!!!!

How can we adopt technology whose safety is not proven? We do not need GM food to boost agric production. we did not need it to become self-sufficient in rice under Acheampong.

What is required is to address the problem of post-harvest losses. How do we transport food from remote rural areas to urban markets, and prevent agric produce going to waste? If we could eliminate post-harvest losses, we would be a step closer to food self-sufficiency.

Let us stop being used as guinea pigs for testing GM foods. Let those countries who developed the technology test it on their own people.

We will have none of it!!!!

If modernisation means adopting Western agric practices, I say a big No!

Let ua look at the agric practices which our forebears used to sustain them over the ages. Let ua look to build on those methods, improving upon them as necessary. Our forebears used natural fertiliser which was sustainable, as against artificial fertiliser used now which ultimately destroys the soil.

Our forebears used conservation to preserve our land and resources for posterity. There was harmony between man and his environment. The stock of wildlife, game, fish and forest cover were preserved.

Let us examine traditional practices carefully and build on them rather than copy blindly from foreign practices which are detrimental to our society.

GM crops will be produced on a need basis, depending on the challenge faced and the limited capacity of conventional non-GM crops. There is no scientific evidence against the safety of GM foods that have been passed by the regulatory system. Under good stewardship, GM crops can coexist with conventional and so called organic crops. YES to the Minister!
