  It is not the BOGs responsibility to start a credit bureau (Credit history system). If the commercial banks are losing money then it is up to them to team up to reduce their credit risk default rate by building a system based ...

  It is not the BOGs responsibility to start a credit bureau (Credit history system). If the commercial banks are losing money then it is up to them to team up to reduce their credit risk default rate by building a system based on their current client information and history.
  It is for the benefit of the banks why does the government need to build it?

You must rethink about your high interest rate you charge since borrowers find it difficult to pay. These and many more I will give if you consult Will help solve the problem of default.   Hmmm the truth will soon emerge if a thorough audit of credit portfolios in the banks and other financial institutions is undertaken. What owners and customers of banks do not know is the level of conspiracy among certain employees, particularly those in the credit departments, condone to use pseudo names to take loans with the intention of not paying back. Most have used these stolen funds to set up micro finance companies to compete with their benevolent employers. They direct potential Credit worthy clients to their companies and thereby strangle their employers with bad debt.

  The day of reckoning is coming soon. Beware!! I have always warned readers that Ghana is sitting on a dangerous time bomb - NON-PERFORMING LOANS of our banks. Government owned banks like the ADB pay their bosses like private banks - they transfer employees to remote areas because they are not part of the ruling party.
  
  The balance sheets of banks do not look clean, unfortunately they are always headed by ruling party stooges. The loan books are overstated and most of their profits are made from buy government debt instruments NOT from lending. This is because debtors do not pay interest on their loans because they are either gone bust or they shared the money with the bankers.
  
  The bank of Ghana must be bold to demand cleaner banking practices, as we continue to find oil and the economy starts picking up. Citizens should watch their deposits, because one will wake up a certain day and find their bank go bankrupt or taken over by the state. NOTE very well that the government of Ghana does not insure your deposits, so keep the barest minimum in your savings and put the remainder in treasury bills.
