Ghana has three regions bothering the sea, two out of the three have ports already so therefore the third one should be located at this area to kill three birds at the same time.
1. to feed the eastern corridor which is the shortest rout to the north and Burkina, Mali and beyond.
2. To tame the sea and preserve the Ghanaian eastern coast line
3.Create jobs and take the pressures off Accra and Tema.

Western region already has a port under the name of Takoradi harbour. Quite recently, a deal with one of China’s largest engineering firms allowed work to begin on the expansion and modernisation of Ghana’s oldest and second largest port to take shape. The port can no longer cope with the large spike in business volume it has seen over the last three years. The strain on the port will increase as it is expected to be the main conduit for oil from the western region.

So, somewhere in-between the shores of Winneba and Saltpond should be the ideal location to build the third so-called large-scale port to enable it become an important trade centre to the immediate regions, Ghana and possibly the landlocked Western African State. Such venture could structure the entire coastline of some 550 kilometres and crave the perfect atmosphere for businesses to grow.

No deepwater port should be built around the Western Region if we do not want disasters around the area; the sea tormenting the sorrounding coastal towns and villages. If we want to sacrify these towns/villages then we should go ahead. The chinese ill care less. It is the responsibility of our planners and so called engineers to do their work and choose a much beter and suitable place based sorely on sound engineering and environmental considerations. We have good Ghanaian engineers of all kinds, it is time they help Ghana stand on her feet.

Every country in the world will welcome Chinese investments when available. Recently, LA in America welcomed a container facilities port. Many countries in the European Union are abound with Chinese businesses and investments. Some of us don't see why Ghanaians have become, increasingly, hostile to Chinese involvement in our economic development. Xenophobic attitude against the Chinese is alien to the Ghanaian culture. What our government needs doing is to put in place mechanisms to demand the Chinese nationals who may come to our country to comply with our laws. Many well-meaning Africans believe that the China's government and its people are helping Africa to develop after long neglect by our traditional friends.

EXTENDING THE VOLTA WATERWAY TO KITAMPO AND CREATING AN INLAND PORT IN THAT VICINITY WOULD BE IDEAL TO GHANA. WE COULD NOT ONLY HELP THE NORTHERNERS BUT ALSO DRAW REVENUE FROM NIGER, BURKINA FASO AND MALI.
