My question is if the grid has the capacitiy to transport all these additional Mega wattts?

In Europe specialy Geramny exist teh same problem.

Wind mills in the Nord sea prodcue plenty of Mega watts due to bottleneck in the distribution grid the electricity can not be transported were it is needed.

Actually same would aply to solarpanel Energy.

Better to go for CSP Systems...

A complete flaw.Alternatively, the hydro power would be more efficient and economical to operate that the wind power. Perhaps a suggestion.

IT IS A BIG DRAIN EVEN ON THE ECONOMIES OF DEVELOPED COUNTRIES LIKE DENMARK AND THE UK BUT THEY PERSIST DUE TO POLITICAL AND OTHER CONCERNS SUCH AS CLIMATE CHANGE ISSUE. WE SHD'T TRY THERE AT ALL. wind is never a total waste of time.the above mentioned areas in ghana have good wind speeds and the feasibility studies will confirm it.there are wind turbines which even produce power at relatively low speeds.Vra has already done a 2MWp solar plant in navrongo and their are plans to do more. i bet the amount of $350 million includes the construction of the actual wind farms as well as tbe feasibilty studies. wind is as free as the sun however the equipment needed to harness the resources to produce electricity fro both wind and solar have to be bought and these could be quite expensive.the cost of electricity of solar could be twice as that of wind. often i hear people ask,why is it that ghana blessed with so much sun doesnt have alot of solar power. the simple answer is we are getting there.vra has started with 2MWp and they are adding more. the other thing about solar is,it is quite expensive per kwh as compared to hydro and even combined cycle thermal or even wind.if Ghana had the capacity of solar power like we have hydro,we would be paying close the 3 times the cost of electricity we are paying now.

In Ghana right now,government is not the only supplier of electricity.sunon asogli in tema and TICO in Aboadze are all private generators.the electricity sector reforms whicb was done somewhere in 2008 paved way for independent power producers.that is why Gridco,the transmission company was established from vra and also the energy commission. However, this hasnt attracted the intended private producers because electricity tarrifs donot reflect the cost of production. no independent power producer will enter the ghanian market if tariffs continue to be politiized. Government is aware vra is not paid enough for the electricity they produce.they are however not going to increase tariffs because of the fear of losing elections. to sum everything up i would like to say that the energy sector in Ghana allows independent power producers,however they are not coming cus at the prevailing tarriffs they would run at a loss.
