There was a commission of enquiry on GHANA ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION, after the overthrow of Nkrumah. Our nuclear energy programme was scuttled by these same corrupt professors. I don't think this professor is serious.

Nuclear energy is a technology of the past. The Minister should instead help our local engneers refine and adapt the new Technology of energy production--using wind,sunshine,water. "the increasing demand for power in the country calls for accelerated measures to venture into nuclear power, adding that the time had come for critical consideration of this option." Your next agenda should be high speed railroad, with that will come employment of security officers, token and ticket sellers, motor men, conductors, computer scientists and programmers, porters, electricians, the list is endless and businesses will just boom, when good Ghanaians can travel cheaply at the speed of over three hundred miles per hour and above! Where will Ghana find the water to cool a nuclear reactor?

The whole of the Ghana coastline is threatened by an active fault. After Japan, Germany, Italy and UK, among others, have been rethinking their nuclear programmes. What cheek for a country that cannot maintain 24-hour internet coverage, a country that depends on hand-outs to fund its national budget going nuclear? What a bunch of jokers.

We know what happened in Japan, a year or two ago, don't we?. We can't even process our sewage waste, they just dump it in the ocean. As kids we experienced a lot of light off, as students we experienced numerous light-offs, and as grown ups, still experiencing light-offs, and so at least so far as i can think, things haven't changed for over 36 years. Many people in the capital city get running water once in a week. Is this a quality of life?. Those useless Government officials get running water all year through i bet. All they can is drive luxury cars, and chase girls and women, forgetting why they were chosen to serve the nation. Such stupid fools.

This is one of the ways these Ministers make their ill-gotten monies...by entering into these wild business ventures only to get cuts from looting the country.For crying out loud,Mr Minister,look towards solar energy.God has been scourging us with its power so we 'll take notice.Some Scandinavian countries with a fraction of sunlight vis-a-vis Ghana supplement their national grids through solar energy,why not Ghana that sits below the equator and "enjoys"maximum sun rays ninety percent of the year?

Nuclear power in Ghana would be a big mistake. Many countries around the world are recognising now that wind power, solar power and other renewables can meet all their energy needs, and more, without the many problems of nuclear power.

The nuclear industry is notorious for telling lies. They will tell you that nuclear power is cheap, that it is ‘always on’, that it is clean, and that it is safe. None of these things are true.

Our research shows that nuclear power is much more expensive than renewables, but many of the costs are hidden from view. Renewables are getting cheaper, while the cost of nuclear power has been on a rising trend for many years.

Like all kinds of equipment, nuclear plants can fail. But when a nuclear power station fails, it is particularly disruptive because it removes a relatively large amount of capacity from the grid and it normally does so quite suddenly and without much warning. By contrast variations in wind power are much more gradual and there is normally several hours warning. The “Combined Power Plant” which links and controls 36 wind, solar, biomass and hydropower installations spread throughout Germany has proved to be just as reliable and powerful as a conventional large-scale power station.
Nuclear power is far from being a zero-carbon source of power. Peer-reviewed research shows that the nuclear cycle emits between 9 and 25 times as much CO2 as wind power.
And nuclear power is not safe. Since the Three Mile Island disaster in 1979, the world has been averaging one nuclear disaster every 11 years, and that excludes several near-disasters such as the Narora nuclear plant in India in 1993, the Wylfa plant in Wales in 1993, the Davis-Besse plant in Ohio in 2002, and the Forsmark plant in Sweden in 2006.
