  Let's hope the infrastructure is there. As it is the harbours are congested. Also it is faster to travel by road than by sea. In an era where just in time counts time is essential. The other thing to consider is multiple handling. Efficiency is critical. Where small packages are concerned sea shipping may make sense as well as where very large consignments are being handled.
  I advise the minister to study the inter modal system North America. Trucks run from Canada to Mexico on daily basis

  The minister is applying for an outlet to steal money, by his redundant road congestion predicate. How does he convey the same cargo delivered by the ships to their final destinations, is it not by road? The best solution is to rehabilitate the railroad system or upgrade to a high speed railroad system. Our lack of commonsense or hasty failure to make distinctions makes our challenges daunting.

  THE LIBERIAN SEAMAN BAR AND STAR HOTELS CATER FOR THE SEAMEN.IT WAS LIKE THE OLD BENBOW INN JONATHAN SWIFT'S "TREASURE ISLAND"
  THE GLORY DAYS IS GONE AND I HOPE THEY RESSURECT THE BLACK STAR LINE.

There is nothing said in the seminar indicating that Ghana is pursuing an opinion, a concern somebody has expressed. Don't write anything just to please gov't or make it appear to be up and doing. This is a rather misleading headline.

  even in usa, if drought no shipping on river, If flood shipping has to stop till safe..Railroads ship huge amounts of containers from and to ports in usa plus truck trailers

  The process for choosing the most suitable mode of transport for moving goods must include consideration for "what is the good that needs to be moved","origin- from where", "destination- to where" as well as the "cost- environmental, economic and social- of candidate modes of transportation- road, rail or water".
  
  According to this news item, the Minister appears to be focusing on moving petroleum products from the Western Region to other maritime African countries.
  
  If this is true, then the Minister is right to focus on "coastal shipping".

  This is what I can do
  1- Rebuild a complete system of Rail Road System to serve all Ghana cities , I mean all Cities
  2- I will provide starting of 2014 one hundred 100 vessel (50 Liner with 1000 Containers-40Tankers 10 Passengers )
  3- Develop the existence ports and create a new shipping and receiving port in Accra, Ghana , ( Yes in Accra, Ghana)
  4- Develop new education system.
  5- Develop Ghana Military arsenal with a contract between Ghana and USA
  6- Rebuild Ghana infrastructure and Roads and double the High ways to enable the commercial Vehicles to utilize the roads safely and effectively
  7- Have the first Ghana Satellite around the Orbit

  THE NEED TO REVISIT THE ESTABLISHMENT OF MARINE,AIRLINE INDUSTRIES IN GHANA,IS PARAMOUNT.WE HAVE TO CART OIL AND OUR NATURAL RESOURCES,AS WELL AS,HUMAN TRANSPORTATION,BOTH AT SEA AND INLAND/INTERMODAL.
  MAHAMA SHOULD WISE-UP.
  EVEN AMERICA & CANADA ARE PLANNING TO CONSTRUCT A TUNNEL FROM VANCOUVER TO TORONTO,WHERE THE SEA WATER COULD BE USED IN TRANSPORTING GOODS FROM EAST - WEST AND VICE VESA.THIS WOULD BE A WIN,WIN SITUATION FOR BOTH USA & CANADA.
  OUR VOLTA RIVERS HAVE TO BE CONSTRUCTED IN SUCH A WAY THAT WOULD BE USEFUL TO OUR INLAND TRANSPORTATION.
  MAHAMA HAS NOT THOUGHT OF THIS.THEY ARE WASTING OUR RESOURCES WITH THEIR BAD,UNUSEFUL DECISION-MAKING.BECAUSE,THEY SEEM NOT TO KNOW WHAT MATTER TO US THE MOST,IN ORDER THAT THEY COULD WALK AWAY FROM THE TRIVIAL.
  THEY HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO DISTRIBUTE OUR RESOURCES PROPORTIONATELY,TO AVOID MISTAKES.
