  Lets give chance to the task force to straighten things up at the port. The bribe collecting officers are now nervous as such they intentionally dragging their feet on the job. Causing a lot of delays at the port. Any Port official who is intentionally dragging his feet on the job should be replaced. We need efficient and hard working men to take charge of things at the port. Any one who is not happy with the task force should find another job.
  Mother Ghana need every penny it can collect to keep the economy rolling in the right direction. No more bribes every one must pay their fair tax at the port. Together we can make a different

  But the Task Force is also taking bribes. One has to bribe the Custom officers, the security agencies at the ports and now the Task Force which has been deemed jobs for the boys of the NDC foot soldiers by Prez. Attah Mills.

  Bribing of a 4th agency at the port has made our margins too wide.
  One Task Force officer demanded a 27" TV set from me, another demanded a DVD player and yet another a pair of shoes before they allowed me through.

  Judging from experience I think the task force is a right idea and deserves to be given all the support it needs to succeed.It's sadly true that most ghanaians aren't willing to do their paid jobs on their own volition and if all it takes is a task force to baby sit them before they sit up then so be it. In all places of work we need effective monitoring/supervisory systems in place if we intend to maximise revenue collection for the state.Much as we need the task force to help streamline activities at the port they are also human and subject to the common ghanaian disingenuities so the question is 'who keeps the tabs on these men or in other words who watches the watchman'? It's time for government to invest in both hidden and surveillance cameras. It's also time to fire and prosecute workers whose activities harm the national economy. Finally it's time to reward hardwork and industry as against the practice of rewarding do nothing cronies whose activities exacerbates an already bad situation.

  The Task Force idea, well intended as it may appear on the surface has proven to be ineffective and not a solution in the long run.It's better to simplify the process of doing business at the port than adding to an already winding and convoluted system . Creating a task force may seems a good idea but are we not creating another 'job for the boys' who will end up compounding our problems? They're rightly connected and will add to the corruption and complications at the ports. We don't need a task force but neither do we need "Clearing Agents at the ports of entry.They both constitute bottlenecks and stumbling blocks so they cannot be a solution. Can anybody explain to me why we need clearing agents. It's also another job for the boys that we simply don't need.They make clearing goods at the ports more complicated, slower and more expensive. In all developed countries and even in some developing countries importers and exporters only have the customs men to deal with. Maybe clearing agents were quite handy before the advent of the computer but in this day and age when information and communication technologies are no longer the monopoly of the most advanced nations, in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness we need to simplify the process and make it more transparent with computerisation.When we get rid of clearing agents we will no lomger need a task force at the ports. A task force is not a solution.They will only compound an already existing problem. Get rid of clearing agents,equip the customs men with computers and we will no longer need another corrupt task force to contend with.The government also needs to invest in hidden and surveillance cameras to stem the tide of corruption.

  There are people who have never seen the task force yet are commenting on it. The task force does not operate in the port. The CEPS are now doing the right thing, else the task force will intercept the goods on the high- way and the officials will be punished. The importers are also now paying the right charges and want the task force out so that they can continue to cheat the state. Thieves.

  I live in Australia, and that was my first time (August 2012) in seeing them at the port in my numerous operations at the port.
  I also agree with mensah abrampa that we should get rid of the clearing agents. I don't see any beneficial role they play for the govt or importers, apart from demanding monies to bribe CEPS and Task Force officers.
