YET THE COUNTRY IS BROKE AND WHAT IS THE GOVT DOING WITH ALL THE MONYE IT COLLECTS. GHANA NEEDS A DEMONSTRATION AND REVOLUTION TO STOP ALL THIS NONSENSE. AT THE END OF THE DAY IS THE POOR THAT SUFFERS BECAUSE ALL THE IMPORT DUTIES WILL BE PASSED ON TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. WHAT A SHAME.

  This means more money to be looted by corrupt officials.
  
  If government had put in place measures to safeguard taxes collected at our ports and border posts,this additional tax wouldn't have been necessary.

  This is very sad because we know what the problem is but instead of finding the right solutions to fix it, we are still doing the same thing.
  First, I think the government should rather plug the leakages which has contributed to the country losing a lot of revenues. Example, those who have been stealing from the national cake should be jailed. This will prevent others from doing the same thing. Unaccounted money from PM's, Ministers, Gas projects, Customs and Excise duties, and so on should be accounted for. Other than that, what they are doing now looks like fetching water with a basket. After all these things have been done and counted for, then we can talk about generating more money for the development of the country.

  The new levy also applies to all imported foodstuff and would take the level of import duties and taxes on imported foodstuff to 39.5 per cent compared to 2.5 per cent in neighbouring countries such as Ivory Coast, a difference of 37%

  The Gov't would be making a big mistake if it uses the SIL as a bandaid to patch up the broken CEPS. The revenue reaching the Gov't from the collection of import duties and other fees from importers prior to this new SIL was heavily reduced by the corruption within CEPS. If that huge hole leaking the import revenues has not been plugged up, it is unfair to hike the fees paid by the importers.
  
  The Gov't cannot simply assume that the imposition of the SIL would only cost the consumer a miniscule of price increase and therefore it is appropriate.
  
  At the front end it is the importers that get squeezed. They have to pay before they can clear their goods from the Port, and then decide how much to pass on to the consumer.
  
  If the Gov't resorts to this backdoor tactics to squeeze the Public to make up for the losses the unchecked Corruption at the CEPS is causing us, it will quickly drop in favor.
  
  The People have just been dealt a spike in prices of Petroleum product, and any new fees that would cause a general increase in prices of all other products would slow down the Economy further.
  
  From Woyomegate to GYEEDA we expect enough savings to spare us the hiking in fees and consequently prices.
  
  The poor should not be forced to subsidize the excessive unearned luxury of the few cheaters in charge of our National coffers.
  
  Long live Ghana!!!
