What is this rubbish. What are the reasons for establishing a foundation to train and provide scholarships to students when the ordinary man on the street of Ghana is not benefiting from the oil and gas. How are Africans going to learn. We are a disgrace to the human race. This is another avenue to provide scholarships to cronies to squander the resources of the nation. Fuck you all

I really share your frustration but we need to start correcting the errors made. If we had actually offered those opportunities for our our own Citizens to acquire the relevant expertise in both the Downstream and Upstream sectors of the Petroleum Industry, we might have been able to ensure greater supplies to our local Markets to keep the prices very affordable and siphone more of the revenues accrued into our Economy. As it is now, the bulk of that revenue flows to foreign interests. It is hard to explain to our folks why we have to pay more for Petroleum products now that we have discovered and begun extracting the Oil than before the discovery.
So, for corrective measures, such an approach to make us more self-reliant and better understand the businesses involved to claim or reserve more of the revenue is in order.
The only other issue I deem crucial to make this new effort succeed, is about ensuring fairer and transparent selection of the candidates for the Educational and Financial Asisstance meant to be distributed among all Ghanaians.
This calls for more vigilance to curb corruption and nepotism and tribalism in the Country.
Long live Ghana!!!

This is most welcome and in line to make up to those who wish we had prepared the Nation better with such pool of experts in the Petroleum Industry before tapping into the resource. These folks who think we ought to have built our manpower needs for the Industry ahead of time believe that we could have claimed much bigger share of our Petroleum dollars that way. By that reasoning we should have left the Oil intact and untapped until we adequately had our local human resource base to depend on for most of the work associated with the extraction, both technical and business-wise.
I hope this foundation sets the tone for any such future plans to harness our Natural Resources. We are tired of being shoved into a hole that only 10-12 % share fits us.
Long live Ghana!!!

The rush to extract oil has made us give away this resource for a pittance. The oil companies are having a field day.
They are not even paying tax, because we have given them a generous tax holiday. We have not put into place the necessary laws to regulate their operations and ensure that they employ and train Ghanaians in oil technology.
Govt is talking about investing $20 billion in the oil industry. What are we going to get from this investment?
