  There are plenty Laws in Ghana that cover Govt. businesses but they are not effective.

  Where is Ghana Railway Corporation, what is Happening at TOR, GNPC, Food distribution Corporation, even NHIT, don't you read about GCB, NIB, ADB? ask for a copy of the Auditor General's Report on State Enterprises and you will be BLIND.
  
  Many BOD IN STATE Enterprises a just there to mark a living.
  
  You do not need an advert to sell GOLD etc so you think the BOD there are the best. Give a Cocoa Processing Company to them and see if the can manage it and ensure that Ghanaian drink more Cocoa powder.

  Alhaji,many of us agree totally with your idea.Many state enterprises fail because of managerial incompetence as you rightly have said.However,for private airlines like yours to succeed,you need state of the art planes and excellent services that will be able to compete at international standards.Not the junk you refer to as Anthrax Air.So Sir,please employ competent personnel to run your outfit first,and if yours proves to be very satisfactory then you can advise the government to back off from such ventures.

  Those who have had the opportunity to travel outside the shores of this country would understand the huge potential a national airline carrier has on the growth of the economy.The whole West Africa market is lying idle and here we are worrying our heads as to whether such a project if embark upon can be viable.Connecting a flight from Accra to Dakar, one have no alternative but to go to Europe first before such connection can occur. You need Emirates before you can take a short flight from Accra to a close sister city like Abidjan.Benefits from the operation of a national airline is tremendous and its no surprise some businessmen for the fear of competition is kicking hard against the idea.Once we had previously failed in this regard is not an assurance that we would fail again if we attempt it for second or even a fourth time.Looking at the enormous capital involve,it will be prudent if the state invest in its establishment and gradually wean herself off it. We need national carrier not only as a means of national pride but as a means of fueling the hospitality industry with a long term vision of creating wealth.

  Bye the way, if Alhaji Banda's Antrak has survived over Ghana Airways and Ghana International Airways, why do you think the same can't beat any other state-ran national airline?

  National airline carrier is an excellent business idea which even the Alhaji himself can not privately denied. No one is saying that because it bears a national name, it should be a state owned. A government initiative undoubtedly would facilitate the establishment of this new firm but it does not mean the state would continuously operate it.Look at Ghana Telecom for instance. A formally State-own company which is private now and its doing fabulously well. A failure yesterday, does not implies a failure tomorrow. Yes, we can.

Why do many airlines fly to Ghana? Is it for them to make losses? All we need is good management.As a patriot, I patronized both Ghana Airways and GIA although,many at times,there were lots of disappointments due to delays in flight schedules!Ghanaians will be proud to fly in their own national airline when it is well managed.Azuma Bandah`s Antrak Air from Germany to Ghana disappointed us a lot!

  What kind of logic is that that would require us to have a national airline simply because we have military aircraft and a presidential jet? So because we're losing money in maintenance of the aforementioned we should go and lose more money on a national airline? NO NO NO! We tried a national airline with Ghana Airways. And we tried again with GIA. It didn't work in either instance because we can't manage. We're too selfish and too unpatriotic to manage successfully. In the holiday season the male managers willl load the plane half full of their girlfriends from the universities and their concubines from the banks and the MMDAs GRATIS. GA/GIA was the only airline in the whole wide world which could overbook an aeroplane in computer booking. Surreal. In almost 30years of air travel on Antrak Air, StarBow, CityLink, Ghana Airforce, Ghana Airways, GIA, Libyan Arab Airlines, Aeroflot, Lufthansa, British Caledonian, British Airways, Ryan Air, Alitalia, KLM, Virgin Atlantic, TAP Portugal - the list is quite endless - Ghana Airways/GIA come bottom for being erratic and unpredictable. We cannot manage.
  
  Let's leave the air alone and manage ourselves well on land. If we achieve that, then we can think lofty. If we have good management amongst us, let's put it in the Electricity Corporation of Ghana (ECG) to sort the blasted place out. Our frigging problem is that we Ghanaians want in Ghana to fly before we can even crawl. Each Ghanaian in the diaspora made a private decision to go abroad (regardless of the diasporean benefits to our country), so let each of us keep travelling private until Ghana can afford to provide us with public air travel. As things stand now, our government must perish the thought of a national airline immediately and concentrate the subsidy which would go into an airline on road infrastructure to get me from Prestea to Kumasi or from Wa to Bolgataga in safety and in excellent time. Alhaji Asuma Banda (may Allah grant him long life) is on point.

  There are well run profitable airlines like Ethiopia even with the latest 787,Angolan Airlines, Kenyan and South African, all government owned. So Ghana can have one too.

  SAA, Kenya and Ethiopian are reasonably well managed companies - however, none of them are profitable.
  
  All three are subsidized by their gov't. - and none of the three could sustain operations without a subsidy.
