  The arbitrary manner by which Customs Duty is imposed on goods imported into the country is the reason why the ports are congested. Recently I imported an eight year old car into the country which cost me a total $4000 cost and freight but the duty alone was almost $3000.
  
  I could not understand why the duty on a small car like that will be so high and I could not get anyone at the Customs office to explain it either. All they wanted me to do was just to pay or else after 60 days the car would be confiscated. How can the government conduct business like this and expect the ports not to be congested? Noboby is suggesting that people should pay nothing for imported goods but it should be reasonable and fair to the importers so that they would not need a long time to get the money to clear the goods. That is what is needed to ensure that the ports are not congested. Common sense is not common.

  anybody knows in usa a 10 year old car is only worth $10,000 unless Bmw or Mercedes and 20 year old car is worh between $2500 and $5000..20 year old car with bad engine or bad trans can be had for $1000-$1500
