  The Energy Commission should make it clearer to the general public what fridges can be brought in and what can not. I guess the directive is too vague and is becoming a field day for Customs officers, even on newer but used fridges brought into the country. Aren't the banned fridges supposed to be the old CFC-type fridges? What if an individual brings in a non-CFC fridge but it is used? This is where customs officers dig their gold by interpreting the laws to the whims and caprices.

  Can an expert tell me what are the environmental hazards or other bad effects second-hand fridges have that are very dangerous to the consumers in Ghana.
  I am suggesting that the govt, while dealing with second- goods must also tackle expensive duties as well as disrespect by these custom officers at these ports. There are too many problems in the country and the only way we can arrest these situations is to start from the bottom up.

  I personally don't see the rational behind the ban. If its because of environmental hazards it should be explained and also if its energy consumption they should let us know or maybe someone has landed a deal to bring in new fridges to rake in some dough.
  In a country where everyone on government payroll is forced to retire at the age 60, however OUR politicians are the only ones which are not affected by this law. They can remain in office till they drop dead and even when they die they still want to remain in power. I JUST DONT GET IT.

  To your infomation, ban on used friddgs is not going to solve the problem of Ghana economy, are you going to suply all our mothers and fathers at the villages new fridges on which cost,are you going to help all our children who have learn rifrigeration work to get new work to do.Please first think about poor people befor think about your pocket.
  I dont agree to your banned of the fridges. To your notice it will help if you go on with this Nrs. R600a and R134a becaue it will help our economy also it dosent give sickness and it also not consuming current. I hope that the the commissioner will take the advice for the importers to bring such NRS. into Ghana in order to avoid too much incovineances into the country.

Ghana must regulate what comes into the country both for environmental safety and economic reasons.We are part of the global village.These fridges are no longer manufactured in the countries where Ghanaians are importing them from. Soon there will no parts and the gas that they run on,creating another envrironmental harzard.

  what has used fridges have in common with energy consumption and what kind of reseaerch proved this bullshit. in america and europe as cited as an example most apartment complexes has fridges which are morethan ten yrs and above and yet no such hypothesis exist. stop fooling ghanaians. the real culprit of higher energy consumption is our 220-240v. as population has increased and more people use energy so will energy consumption increase. we should rather find a way to cut our voltage to 110-115v as adopted by the united states to conserve energy output and to enable more people use electricity as popilation increases or people should be adviced to use step down stabilizers and switch to electrical items with 110-115v output. cut that crabb and tell ghanaians the truth.

Old fridges indeed use more energy because of inefficient motor,they are no different to old technology in motor car engines.The old fridges use a gas hazardous to the the environment,a culprit for the depletion of the ozone layer, and banned everywhere in the world Changing the voltage to 110/115 is a small part of the thrust to reduce energy consumption,but a laudable one. There are no new fridges being manufactured europe or America that will run on the old gas,r12. So why should we be importing their problem?
