I was very surprised the late Atta mills said the national courier isnt the government's priority. NDC is only interested in looting and sharing. is a shame,God is watching

Please note that, the NPP did not mismanage the airline. By the time the NPP took over from NDC (who had been in power for 2 decades), the airline had already been mismanaged to the point of collapse and had become a huge drain on the nation's coffers.

It was highly unprofitable and saddled with huge debts leading to legal harassment here and there.

It could not honour its flight schedules and was losing passenger customers in leaps and bounds due to lack of credibility and reliability. Passengers could get stranded for days before a "scheduled" flight would take place.

It was operating with only a single aircraft that required constant maintenance. The maintenance had to be done in foreign countries, mainly England and USA, because there were no local facilities and competent aeronautical engineers who could handle it.

The foreign maintenance facilities occasionally refused to carry out the maintenance and would rather seize the airplane to demand payment of outstanding maintenance bills.

Some foreign airports also used to ground the plane for non-payment of landing fees etc.

There was also a huge backlog of salaries and wages, leading to frequent strikes by its workers.

This is the condition of the national airline that the NPP inherited. It was terribly hopeless and commercially disastrous!

So after a series of consultations with industry leaders and finance experts, the Kuffour govt was advised to scrap the airline. It was deemed to be woefully infeasible to operate.

We must learn to put the blame where it belongs to, without prejudice to our individual political discourse.

My brother is not painful to see this nation tearing apart? At least putting the stolen verdict aside,Ghana voted them into power to redress all these issues but see what they doing? They still blame NPP for everything going bad and they are not fixing it. See this Victoria's issue that has popped up and they are defending. what a hell!

If he, as the Minister in-charge of seeing to the well being of the airline could take such huge money in far away New York to pay a prostitute, imagine how much he has been taking in Ghana.

The time NPP came to power, Ghana Airways was still flying. In fact, I used it from Ghana to New York and back during the Kuffour era. Kuffuor and his greedy Ministers killed Ghana Airways among many others.

I am not holding brief for Kuffour and his NPP govt. NPP also had its failures. However, as far as the folding up of the national carrier is concerned, it was completely rotten in terms of commercial viability before Kuffour took over.

When Ghana Airways flew from New York to Accra, you could have a full reservation and not make the flight. And if you made the flight, your bags would not be accompanying you. The crew and other employees, who were also masquerading a business men and women, shopped the New York stores and loaded the plane with their goods. To heck with the paying passengers.

A friend of mine almost lost his job because when he flew to Accra on Ghana Airways, he could not get a return flight back to New York. After trying for a week, he finally got one. IS THIS A WAY TO RUN AN AIRLINE. Serious and well-meaning Ghanaians decided that they would rather flying the KLMs and the BAs and Lufthansas to Accra instead of Ghana Airways. That way they are assured of their bookings.

Delta Airlines is now enjoying the benefits of this lucrative route. Ghana Airways had it all and blew it. Who do we blame here?

That was the reason why obadwemba Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the only visionary leader in Ghana told the Parliamentarians in the 60s that the British Oversease Airways Coperation ( B.O.A.C) which cater for Ghana-Nigeria-Sierra Leone and Gambia is a British company Airlines, and that it can collapsed any time so Ghana should have own Airlines, this statement was opposed by the U.P opposition members same as they opposed to the building of Cape coast university, Akosombo Dam, Tema Motoway and even the factories that Nkrumah was enslaving the country and that they were not going to approved that. But the man with vision and wisdom went ahead and bought one plane, later followed two more planes including this one, but shortly after his overthrowned the criminal leaders who came after him started destroying the planes, hence we have no national carrier. Even Namibia who got Independence on 21st March 1990 has national carrier. Ghana had independence in 1957, elected a constitutional president to power to rule for 5 yrs, just only a year from a visit to Burkina Fasso formerly Upper Volta, thr president decided to visit people of Upper West a town called Konungougou, the U.P terrorist organisation threw bomb at him wanted to kill him, they continued their terrorist activities untill they got him out, hence our suffering today in Ghana.

Wasn't this the aircraft Limann bought in 1980 but was ran down by Jerry Rawlings and his cohort of illiterate revolutionaries? Every other aspect of the Ghanaian society was ran down in the same way. The only noticeable difference is that, this one flies. And it is easy to see when it can't. It is Ghana that is grounded, not a DC 10.
