No, on the contrary. Ghana does not need to spend the money to prop up another bloated, corrupt national carrier. Ghana needs to spend that money opening up the market, refurbishing airports, improving safety standards and stamp out the corruption in the industry. Doing this will stimulate the market, allow the entry of more carriers lowering the market prices and thereby increasing the amount of passengers, and also increasing the revenue the government gets from the industry.
Imagine how many people would fly if the prices for a flight from Kumasi to Accra was about 3 times the price of a bus ticket?

Then also why should public money be used to advance the interests of greedy private interests? Nobody is stopping any private operator from setting up his/her own airline. Anybody who wants to do so, is free to do so. In fact there are quite a few private airline operators in Ghana at the moment so what are you guys talking about?.

Yes Ethiopian Airlines has one of the best records in aviation history and it is a state run company to boot.
At one time, when Ghana was Ghana, Ethiopian Airways could not compete with Ghana Airway until the small, narrow-minded African capitalists came in and willfully destroyed Ghana Airways only so that they could make private money in its stead. Even this, without any major competition, they also failed.

How can other carriers sue us if our national carrier is given cheap landing rights or fees?
Many other national and private carriers are given cheap concessionary rights and fees all over the world based on mutual agreements so why cant we also follow suit?
Every business concern can arrange legal deals with authorities based on mutual agreements and benefits with each other. These can range from tax concessions to total tax holidays and low export/import tariffs and so on and so forth.
British Airways has privileged deals with airport authorities in Britain. Certain imports into Europe dont enjoy the same privileges as local producers etc. Whats your problem?
Mr Dan why are you so anti-Ghana airways in your presentations? Have you been affected by the slave-master bug that does not see anything good about the slave?
Now let me make it clear to you that Ghana or for that matter, Africa has no future in the private sector. Opening up the private sector to private investment only ultimately means giving away all the family jewels to foreign predators.
As it is, it is only state operators in Africa that have any chance at all of withstanding the bullying and undermining tactics as well as the financial and technical strength of global competitors, particularly those from the west. This, coupled with poor and shoddy local management, caused the downfall of Ghana Airways.

I am totally against Capt Forjoe's claims. We do not need a national carrier owned by the state to make Accra the business and travelling hub of West Africa. What we need is a first class world standard airport supported by the most up to date technological infrastructure in addition to corruption free , well trained ground staff attract the best airlines to fly to Accra. Establishing a national airline is another way of creating an opportunity for some foolish people to be able to fly their girl friends in first and business class cabins to Europe and elsewhere for their adulterous rendezvous, in addition to the staff stealing with both their hands and feet, all revenue that should accrue to the airline. If Capt Forjoe says he is an aviation expert, he should go out there and sell the huge aviation potential of Ghana to investors to come and establish airlines in Ghana with him as a partner, and stop romanticizing and coercing the public into believing in having a national airline as a solution to our national woes. We were there and only succeeded in piling up debt for the poor tax payer to pay.If the previous Ghana Airways could not make money despite the good routes they had created what makes Capt. Forjoe to think that we can get it right this time round? An expert indeed.

This is what some of you badly educated fools continue to say. The nonsense has gone on to the extent that today we live in a country where we have sold everything including our common-sense and our skin color to foreign investors.
We now live in a country where Ghanaians as well as the state do not own anything of any significance. What this will eventually lead to is that Ghanaians will become the slave-class in their own country. Wise up man!
It will not surprise me that very soon, foreign investors will employ their overwhelmingly stronger capital base to manipulate a foreigner to become a head of state of Ghana.
Kakabo that being the case, why did we bother to go through the pains of attaining independence from those criminal colonialists?
Let me also remind you that in business, state enterprises have as much right as as private enterprises to take loans and to pile up debt like any other company. It is also very possible that state enterprises can be mismanaged by bad management. Its all in the business of business like any other business.
State enterprises are not magical institutions that can perform wonders where others fail. As smaller competitors, they are also subject to shocks and influences of the mischievous tricks of the local and particularly the international markets.
We however still have several successful state enterprises in Ghana but nobody points to their successes. Those that have not been run properly were as a result of politicians of various corrupt "free enterprise" govts appointing or imposing bad and incompetent management executives and meddling in their business operations for personal benefit.

I hope Ghana government will not listen to people like Captain Paul Forjoe. Ghana does not need to saddle itself again with running an airline. Ghana Airways and Ghana International Airlines never succeeded because of outrageous corruption. Delta Airlines has succeeded greatly on the same Accra-New York route which Ghana Airways made huge losses. The New York staff of the defunct Ghana Airways were more involved in transacting personal business than official business. They were flying to Accra on weekly basis with tons of luggage free of charge. In addition, they were selling or giving away "buddy passes" to willing buyers and concubines. It was a shame that the Ghana Government had to remit funds from Accra to pay the Ghana Airways staff in New York, in US dollars. What Ghana government needs is to develop and expand airports in Ghana to attract more international and local flights from carriers. Airport taxes, landing/take-off fees and leasing of aircraft hangers to carriers would be more lucrative than running another bloated national airline. And most of all, somebody needs to audit the aviation account at Ministry of Finance to determine that all carriers are paying the appropriate charges, and also to determine how funds collected from the airports are being mananged (or mismanaged).
