  Interesting !!!. I do not think it is news. Mr Amenya should not behave like the ostrich. Somewhere in his submission, he admits that the activity between the countries is common and it has existed over the past decade. How then does he say that it has not come to their notice and denies that.
  
  I will give you the following reasons for the "re-emergence" of the activity and promise that it is going to be done in double leaps. The reasons are:
  
  1. the unpaid bonuses for the past three years should be paid without any further delay;
  
  2. the feeder roads in the cocoa growing areas should be rehabilitated without any further delay;
  
  3. IMMEDIATE REVIEW OF THE PRODUCER PRICE TO FARMERS;
  
  4. A new pricing mechanism evolved for cocoa pricing;
  
  5. Either the mass spraying is stopped forthwith and realistic price paid for cocoa or the exercise is continued with more pragmatic approach;
  
  6. Strict monitoring of cocoa buying agencies as to the way farmers are either handled or treated;
  
  7. Exploring the possibility of "enrolling" on the GYEEDA Scheme to engage local boys either drop outs or otherwise to help in farming in the industry;
  
  8. A more serious pragmatic developmental programme drawn for the industry in the face of the emergence of oil

  They always think propaganda will help them out but it is only a fool who will rely on this logic.At the end of the cocoa season the result will be there for all to see.There will be lesser cocoa tonnage sent out of the count ...

  i am of the view that mr. ameyaw should not dismiss this report by reuters. rather should not have commented or asked reuters to give them further information to curb the menance. i visited Ghana Nungua a town around Elubo about 15 minutes drive from elubo. it is the river that separates the Ghana from Ivory coast. unfortunately most of the Ghanains farm across the river in Ivory Coast. so i asked about the issue of smuggling and they comfirm that the are frequent police and military patrols in the area. i asked the number of purchasing clerks and they said more than 20 in a small town of less than 300 people. so i asked where they sell their cocoa. and one told me that one thousand cfa is four cedis eighty pesewas. so when i checked i realised thativory coast price is more than ours by fourty ghana cedis. so the issue of smuggling is not a joke and we should not give lip service and counter auguments to it. i added my contacts because i have been on the field for more than 7 years i am district manager with one of the lbc's in Ghana.
