Why does the Bank of Ghana have to pump dollars into the systemm ; to meet except for vital government purchases like medical equipment ; the government should refrain from pumping dollars into the system because all that happens is that these indians ; labanesse ; Italians ; Chinnesse criminals ; obtain these dollars underthe the pretext of trade and export but these monies are taken out of the country by these people besides why should the government finance import trade deficit which has nothing to do ad very detrimental to the state of the economy ; the fact of the matter is that it is simple any economic action you take has a negative effect ; because once you build a huge budget deficit without and any means to control the deficit you are bound to face currency problems .

The cedi is falling because the demand for the dollar is high.
Possible reasons:
(1) people need the dollar to import goods(spare parts, medical supplies etc) into the country. Ghana does not manufacture these goods.
(2) Ghana's budget is at a deficit and and needs the dollar too to pay its debts( loans ). I bet you the $20 million to inject into the economy is borrowed money. You don't need thorough analysis to figure that out. It is right in your face. The quicker you act the faster you can slow the depreciation.
(3) The price of gold, cocoa and oil has gone down - reducing Ghana's foreign exchange revenues.
(4) The 1yr controversial election petition has slowed the economy down internally and externally. Ghana lost concentration on focusing what was important to us: Growing the economy, attracting domestic and external investment.
The three areas of the economy: cocoa, gold and oil, logically there is a tendency to cut production when prices are low. The result will be low revenue for Ghana.
It is a global economy trend. We should see a change in the next quarter as the world economies get better.
