Ghana should embrace the use of energy saving bulbs instead of the old types being used at the moment. A 7 watts and 11 watts energy saving bulbs would give respectively 40 and 60 watts brightness. These would intend reduce electricity comsumptiom, bills of cosumers and cut production costs drastically. Buid two more modern dams if possible since the Volta is still flowing after 57 years of independence and most importantly reduce the number and salaries of polititians, ministers and most top gorvenment officers.

Good idea but it is even better when we know how to recycle these bulbs contains toxins like mercury FYI.

Sometimes the kind of response we get from energy ministry over a clear failure of duty is nauseating. Why should energy conservation be a top priority in the midst of abundant sources of energy? Why do you sit unconcerned and allow the sun to scorch your people to burns when you can trap it and use it for power generation. Are we thinking sensibly? You should be thinking of generating surpluses to bring the tariffs down. That is how you help people as a caring Government

INCOMPETENT. HE MUST GO, INCLUDING THE ENGINEERS AT THE GENERATING PLANTS, AKOSOMBO, BUI, TAKORADI AND TEMA. THEY ARE ALL USELESS. DID THE GH GOVERNMENT PAY THE CHINESE COMPANY TO INSTALL ONLY 80% CAPACITY AT THE BUI DAM? WHY SHOULD A FOOLISH STUPID ENGINEER COME TO THE TELE AND TELL GHANAIANS THAT THE BUI DAM EVEN THOUGH IT HAS BEEN HANDED OVER IT IS PRODUCING BELOW CAPACITY? WHY? AS AN ENGINEER AT THE PLANT HE SHOULD HAVE TOLD US WHY IS THE DAM, A NEWLY BUILT DAM IS PRODUCING WAY BELOW CAPACITY. ONLY IN BACKWARD GHANA WOULD YOU HEAR THIS. WE SAY WE A PROGRESSIVE, EVERYTHING WE SAY WE ARE THE BEST, THE "GATEWAY TO WEST AFRICA". WHO GAVE US THAT TITLE? NO WONDER NIGERIANS FROWN AND MAKE FUN AT US. WE ONLY KNOW HOW TO LIE TO MAKE OURSELVES GREAT. WE ARE STANDING AT THE SAME PLACE, WHILE OTHERS LESS CIVILISED, AS WE GHANAIAN FOOLISHLY CALL THESE COUNTRIES, ARE FAST OVERTAKING US AND LEAVING US FAR BEHIND.
BOKINA HAS NOTICED THE IMPORTANCE OF THEIR AGRIC SECTOR AND ARE NOT FEEDING GHANA.
WE PROUND OUR FOOLISH SELVES THAT WE HAVE THE BEST DEVELOPED FINANCIAL CENTRE IN THE SUB-REGION. THE NIGERIANS ARE NOT PLANNING TO BUILD, BUT THEY ARE ALREADY BUILDING A HUGE FINANCIAL CENTRE, CALLED "EKO ATLANTIC" THEY ARE QUIETLY DOING THAT WITHOUT ANY FANFARE, AS GHANAIAN WOULD HAVE DONE. WHEN FINISHED, IT WOULD BE LIKE MINI MANHATTAN.
KENYANS ARE ALSO QUIETLY TAKING THIER ALREADY DEVELOPED MANUFACTURING BASE ANOTHER STEP BY BUILDING A HIGH-TECH CITY, CALLED "SILICON SAVANA", BUILDING NAIROBI LIGHT TRAIN. NAIROBI IS WELL PLANNED, CLEANER, NEATER.
IVORY COAST, CAPITAL, ABIDJAN IS BY FAR MORE BEAUTIFUL, CLEANER, THE LAGOONSAND RIVER BODIES, CLEANER. ABIDJAN IS LIKE A EUROPEN CITY.
NIGERIA'S NEW CAPITAL ABUJA. SPLENDID!!!
WHAT ARE WE GHANAIANS WAITING FOR? WE ARE SITTING AND EATING IN DIRT, DIRT, DIRT. WE SIT AND SELL WITH HEAP OF RUBBISH A METERE AWAY. WHO CARES?
I CAN GO ON AND ON AND CITE EXAMPLES OF AFRICAN COUNTRIES DOING EVERYTHING IN THEIR POWER TO BUILD AND DEVELOP THEIR COUNTRIES AND BUILD THEIR ECONOMIES.
WHAT WE GHANAIAN KNOW WHAT TO DO IS TO SIT INFRONT OF TV, RADIO STATIONS AND JUST TALK WILD, WILD WILD DREAMS AND MAKE OURSELVES BIG.
IT IS TIME TO STOP ALL THOSE FOOLISH TALKS, LIES AND STOP SAYING WE PLAN TO...., WE ARE PLANNING TO....
DO IT. LET'S US SEE THE REAL WORK, THE PROJECTS, THE ROADS, PLANTS, SMELTERS, RICE FARMS, SUGAR FACTORIES, INTER-CITY TRAINS, INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTS, ETC. OUR EARS ARE BREAKING FOR HEARING PROMISES.

Conservation is a good thing but it's a distraction from the real problem. Power Production. Ghana produces so little power when compared to countries they aspire to. If I recall 78 watts per person vs South Africa's 500 vs USA's 7000 (not sure of the US number but it's in that magnitude 5,000 to 7,000).
With the gargatuan electrical rates, conservation is pushed on all Ghanaians...,well..all Ghanaians and foreigners who PAY for their own electricity.

We do not have the heavy industry in US and to a lesser extent S Africa, so our energy needs are less.
Still, I take the point that we need to produce more energy.

We want the economy to grow and employ people but we are not investing in power supply. At the moment, VALCO which used to be our highest industrial exporter for aluminium products is down due to lack of power.

This is a welcome initiative as an interim measure to address the energy crisis.
Nonetheless, the minister should ask VRA to look again at its maintenance schedule so as to forestall the occurrence of such a crisis. VRA should stagger the maintenance of all its energy-generating facilities to ensure that they are not all taken out of operation at the same time. Better forward planning and co-ordination with Gridco, ECG, ToR and now GNGC would have obviated this crisis.
