  THE ECONOMISTS WHO ATTENDED THE MEETING SHOULD HAVE FIRST KNOWN THE CHALLENGES AND DIFFICULTIES FACING THE NATIONS ECONOMIC GROWTH.

  The fact that the economy should have transformed on the back of the recent oil discovery is an understatement. Indeed, if the expert opinion on electricity power generation and the figures required to bring it to normalcy to address local capacity and also feed manufacturing and industry, as well as meet our committments to our neighbours in furtherance of Ecowas protocols of market growth on the back of industry, manufacturing, access, integration whilst earning some badly needed foreign excange, then the reckless fiscal deficit, where a whooping amount of close to a staggering Gh9million, in the last 3 months of 2012, would have to be put in the right context, to address, why, the economy is failing to transform, and would not transform, in view of the present economic fundamentals. And this is in the absence of the quantum of dubious judgment debts, which have also gone out from the system, but have not been reconciled to the figure stated above.
  Clearly, leadership has been extremely and overly poor, with a very pronounced and telling effect of a lack of vision and self sacrifice on the part of the Mahama led NDC gov't, to address the structural deficits, which would bring about the needed transformation, so desperately required of the economy when issues of corruption, thievery and looting are critically assessed, as a function of the inability of the economy to transform, not forgetting incompetence.
  The situation is very dire and expert opinion if it is anything to go by, does not engender any confidence in the measures and in the Mahama led NDC gov't to address the transformation agenda, not to talk of addressing the tottering economic fundamentals.
  The statement by the Finance minister that, the measures to address the intractable fiscal and economic fundamentals would take some years to resolve, is clear testimony of exactly where Ghana is presently under the Mahama led NDC gov't-the abyss.
  Retrospectively, it can be inferred that, based on the empirical evidence and the benefit of history, the Mahama led NDC gov't, lacks the predisposition and competencies to engineer the transformation agenda, if all factors are considered ie economy, infrastructure, security etc, etc, even in the light of the gov't's stance of signing the recent EPA agreement which became a topical issue, and save for the issues raised by the Nigeria, would have been a binding document.
  The Mahama led NDC gov't from all indications need a breather from the governance, and Ghanaians should oblige them.

  Seth Terkper should consult with him and other think tanks - Dr Abbey's CEPA, ISSER etc in developing economic policy.
