I guess the BOG thought they could come out with those measures to make the cedis stable but they didn't sit to think of it that the country doesn't have production companies and just importing stuffs and exporting the raw materials we have as well...so its not about the measures that they will bring but rather work on the country having production companies...

Many people are doing their best to circumvent the efforts of BoG. They claim they are special and should be exempted from these measures. These are some of the same people who suggest that government is not doing enough and must take "drastic measures". I have always thought they are part of the conversation and must, therefore, put in the public domain the drastic measures they have in mind. When the populace is not willing to follow the lead and do everything in their power to thwart efforts of the leaders, this is what may happen.

Iceland had terrible problems with their currency and measures were instituted that has largely been followed by all who inhabit the island. Let anyone try to send just $1000 a month for a year for any purpose from Iceland to any country and see what happens.

It would not matter which government is in power. If all we consistently want to do is import used thrash into the country and demand foreign currency for them then we are in a long long hustle. A foreign minster in the immediate past government is on trouble for whatever role he might have played in collaborating with the NIB Boss at that time to import rice into the country (worth US $60 million). Did they think about reducing imports to alleviate the pressure on the Ghanaian currency?

The solutions lie with us. What are we doing or going to do about it?

What is the AGI advise to its members to reduce pressure on the local currency? Are they engaging our young and fertile minds in the universities, by way of research funding, to come up with local substitutions for their needs?

Let's all think about how the modern air conditioning was "invented" by that young engineer (Willis Haviland Carrier ) who was trusted with doing a job for his employer. With his mind tuned to the problem on his hand, he found the solution. What is the AGI trusting our engineers to do for them? Maybe it is much "easier" for them to import the "solutions" to their needs.

The people who seem to think the sky is falling because of a weak Ghana cedi against major currencies of the world are more likely to be businesses who are in existence and operations for the sale of imported finished goods. There is however, the other side of economics which should favor those Ghanaian owned and based businesses vested in the production and export of Ghanaian goods and or services. For as the cedi falters in value, foreign companies and trading partner nations who import Ghanaian goods are bound to find prices of Ghana products to be relatively cheaper to products of similar quality from other competing nations. Businesses in Ghana are bound to suffer because the overwhelming majority of Ghana's so-called businesses are nothing more than people who buy finished products and even perishables in bulk from foreign nations and sell at higher prices in Ghana; they do not produce a darn thing to help with Ghana's continued trade imbalance issue.
