Isn't it laughable for Ghana to be importing fruit juice. Why wont the cedis be chasing the dollar at full speed.

That's true. In Germany they are not allowed to declare them as fruit juices, they have to call them "fruit juice-drinks" or "fruit-nectars" if sugar and water etc. were added.
Even that is misleading to those who don't know the exact meaning of the expressions.
From what I've seen, the one big Ghanaian producer (I can't recall the name right now) has much better quality than the usual cheap imports, because the Ghanaian company dilutes less with sugar & water than the foreign ones I compared.
That means, that the Ghanaian producer I checked had .
But most consumers in Ghana, even if they can read, don't seem to check the ingredients lists regularly.
And of course, much as in every country, most buy the cheapest ones, even if they have double as much water inside.
I think, generally this article points in the right direction: there are probably some "deals" going on, that make imported juices to cheap for Ghanaian companies to compete.
That can be expected, as it is the old way of exploiting the so-called developing countries, namely by taking their resources, e.g. fruits, at undervalued prices, then processing them in the foreign industrial centers, and finally selling them back at raised prices, so that the "developing countries" always have losses. Then the industrialized countries jump in feigning generosity with their " development aid", while in the background they keep up measures to prevent the "developing countries" from developing their own industries (protectionism, including price manipulations via terms-of-trade-agreements, protective tariffs and domestic subsidies and incentives).
But still, this article seems to have more holes than Swiss cheese, and has an undercurrent of vague allusions. as well as imprecise descriptions, such as: "compared to other fruit juices of equal quality" etc.; I'm also quite sure the author cannot know how much profit per carton the importer has, because to many variables can only be known to the importer (e.g. bulk purchase price, transportation). $7,52 profit per carton - can you know that to the cent?
Also, the Ghanaian juices seem overpriced to me. But I don't know who is making the price so high - the producers, the wholesellers, the transporters, the retailers, or all together? Last time I checked, they sold at 8 to 9 GhS per packet at the small rural retail stores- mixed with water and sugar.
For that price you can buy a whole lot of mangoes.
That brings me to my last remark / astonishment: It would be quite easy to make high quality mango-, cashew-apple, soursop- (="Ghana-Apple"-) etc. juices, but it ain't happening. why?
I would like to support Ghanaian industry more, but for some fruit juice without distinct taste and a lot of water inside I rarely want to spend 8 - 9 cedis per packet.
