  What a shame to read that Ghanaians are bold to say that they only import and do not export!!!!!. Why should it be like that if we really see and believe that importing more that exporting can leave us where we are today.

  In this wise who do we blame of the present situation of the economy? I believe majority of the village minded Ghanaians will simply and foolishly blame Mahama, when they are aware that every Ghanaian is a fool when you talk of economy.
  
  The saddest thing is that the so called university degree holders with love for political parties will even forget their educational knowledge of the more one imports and the less exports places one in economic woes.
  
  I just expect every politician to keep quiet over the economic situation in Ghana and stop the foolish village low mentality blame game and get hands on bpard and help solve our prob;em since it is not caused by one person.
  
  Naturally if it is of a person then Kufour should be the number one to be blamed. Ask whether if one borrows money and later leaves office who pays? The answer without political arguement is the next government that takes over.
  
  Why are we not coperating to solve our problems, but had resolved to foolsh political blame game, a situation which is never good for our development.
  
  We ought to straightebn ourselves if we believe we want to help our nation economically through politics.

  It saddens my heart to read such an article from Justice Sarpong. I will be very glad if he could point out to me one country under the sun that has developed by import driven policies. Development is driven by effective utilization of renewalable resources and adding value to products and making sure you do not spend your hard earn currency on stuff that can be locally generated and learning to live within your means. The problem is not just the government but the people. The people will always find ways to blame the government and heap all mistakes on the government without critically assessing how they could have made things better ,and what was their contribution. The whole of Accra is filthy, you will see the citizens throw waste about indiscriminately when that wrapper could have stayed in their purse until they got home, drivers will stop and park any were with no regards to the road and turn around and blame the government.The government and the people are living way beyond their means yet expect manner to fall from heaven.

  In long term a weak but stable currencies help export but you need build the base first .

  2. If what Kwartey claimed was true, then most nations would be doing the same. There is a difference in overvalued currencies. In our situation, the cedi is not intentionally overvalued. It is on a falling streak. Had our cedi been intentionally overvalued, as could be defined by a particular currency, then the impact of the overvalued cedi would effectively impose a tax on exports and likewise provide a subsidy to imports. But, that is not the case. Fifi Kwartey, please take a class in economics 101

  Ghana is primarily an import based country,economy. Therefore, u need a strong cedi. A stronger cedi will have its disadvantages but it outweighs having a weak cedi if you are an importer. Why do u think china continues to devalue its yuan? You can't be a net exporter and have a strong currency. It defeats the basic sense of economics. Let the yuan get stronger and importers will go elsewhere becos they won't appreciate converting more of their currency to the yuan. Converting more of your currency to import trash is a lose-lose for anyone. Don't forget the issue of currency wars also.
