  Speaking at a forum convened by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to discuss ways to boost foreign exchange inflows to stem the chronic depreciation of the cedi, Mr. Pianim, who chaired the forum, strongly criticised July’s budget review – arguing that rather than announce expenditure cuts, the government used the opportunity to boost spending and seek approval to borrow an additional GH¢.1.16billion.
  
  “Ghana is facing a major economic crisis – one not seen since the dark days of the 1980s. There’s a denial, however, in public pronouncements of the magnitude of the problem that we face… One would have expected the [mid-year] review to come out with budgetary cuts instead of committing additional resources to expenditure. Advantage was also not taken to send a strong signal that we need to tighten our belts,” he said.

  JUST CHECK ALL THEIR EFFORTS...THERE IS NO SINGLE MEASURE ON THE EXPENDITURE SIDE TO REDUCE GOVENMENT EXPENDITURE: "CUTTING YOUR COAT ACCORDING YOUR SIZE!!!!
  
  THEY ARE BUNCH OF FAILURES...... IT IS SO LAUGHABLE TO HEAR THEM GIVING HOPE THAT THINGS WOULD BE SOLVED BY THE END OF THE YEAR!!!!

  Expenditure is good investment that has potential to create jobs and generate revenues. Given the unstable macroeconomic environment and unreliable and high energy costs in Ghana, it is not likely for revenues to grow at least in the short term to medium term. This means that Debt to GDP ratio will further worsen more than 60%. Executive gov't needs to build confidence in the economic prospects to encourage private investment and foreign Direct Investment. Gov't should cut unnecessary costs especially gov't officials, MPs' etc. It will not take less than five years for Ghana to get out of the wood to a full recovery.
