What do we use instead, any substitute? Plastics are being used all over the world. It's about education and enforcement of how to keep plastic indoors and not to dispose them anyhow. Besides, the Sanitation workers should also do their work. Plastics are necessary, and they could be contained if proper education is mounted.

How long should it take to educate the Ghanaian? We tend, sometimes to be simply lawless and our institutions supposed to check this lawlessness have become so corrupt that they look elsewhere when money changes hands.

I support the World Bank's suggestion. Years before the use of plastics we were using paper bags which are ecologically friendly and I therefore do not see the sense in importing an innovation that turns round to hurt and kill us.
I pray for a government that will take the bold decision to do away with plastic bags which use is so abused by the Ghanaian.

what does mcdonalds or wendy's give your hamburger or chicken burger in? Only problem with paper it will fall apart( bad during wet season) but good for degrading in the dump(landfill)....Home depot or lowes sells huge paper ...

Is it not sad Ghana is compared with South Sudan when it comes to open defecation? What a shame, yet our minister are throwing about their weight around the world. Note we are all a laughing stock, Shame Ghana. South Sudan was born 2011 so they are excused.

The right approach is effective social communication efforts to build a closed loop recycling culture so that resources are reused and quantum of waste going to landfills reduced and also lesser environment footprint.

What amazes me about the sanitation debate in Ghana is that everyone appears to believe that organizing periodic clean ups will solve the problem. That is not the answer.

What amazes me about the sanitation debate in Ghana is that everyone appears to believe that organizing periodic clean ups will solve the problem. That is not the answer.

In Accra, there is no local/central government collection of rubbish from both residential and commercial premises in most areas. There is no daily rubbish collection and cleaning of markets. What is the role of the Accra Metropolitan Authority in sanitation>

In my recent visit to Ghana I saw staff of AMA zealously collecting revenue from market traders, who were trading in very filthy conditions. What do they use the money for?

In many parts of Accra, I saw large skips overflowing with decayed and smelling rubbish. Does anyone care? Is someone responsible for sanitation in Ghana?
