What a dumb idea! The problem is not putting-up more of the so-called modern markets. The problem is getting the teaming unemployed youths some decent job to get them off the streets selling all sorts of goodies. How best, to do that is by decentralising the system hence putting factories across the regional capitals as well as the villages. That, Mr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, is the only long time solution to the overflowing hawkers in every major city.

Why would a municipal government creat problems for itself when they are overwhelmed by existing problems. Where is our priority as a country or they wa nt to tie the hAnds of the trader to a party.

While GRA accuses Ghanaians of not paying taxes, the AMA crooks collect not least ham GHC 300.00 from those who sell on pavements. And this is not even Healy but happens anytime a new person takes charge.
Pavements are disappearing, bye laws over household toilets are not followed, building permits takes ages and bribes to be issued, hawkers and vendors sell exposed food to the public etc
The AMA should be dismantled and the workers declared redundant.
The AMA introduced the KVIP who's only breeds cockroaches and has now turned round to declare it illegal.it is the AMA which is causing all the deaths through cholera and typhoid and many more in this capital.

You can build all the markets you plan but if they wrongly located and not accessible, no easy parking (even paid parking) the convenient markets would continue to be on streets.

If you are able to address the to key issues i.e accessibility and ease of parking the next step is to pass a by law (if it is not already existing) to prosecute the buyers. Without their patronage there would not be the demand and the same hawkers would naturally subscribe for and operate shops from the market.

Now you see, Mr Mayor! Your market would not be a white elephant, hawkers would settled,the streets would be de congested and tax collection would be enhanced.
