I dont know you, but i think it will be interesting to listen to you. Did she say "Representing my country and my Ashanti tribe is important to me" oh she said that and the tribal bashers had no problem with her. If it were Ayigbe Edem, then someone would have had problems. the tribal hipocricy and double standards in this country.

Edem if you have a culture which the international world is interested why cant you be proud of that ? She is promoting her tribe because even the caribbeans have a history book with Ashanti Kings and Queens so they are much interested in hearing more about Ashantis. If you have a history of 600 years ago with the international community then why not promote it if they are interested ? As am writing now akan/ twi is a course at the Fordham University so what can one do about it if the university has chosen it as a course ? Its all got to do about the history and the people. So this is no hypocricy and double standard but how the people have sold their rich culture to the admiration of the world. If your tribe is not popular in the world you dont blame nobody.

Maame, am all for selling your culture out to the world...and as a Ghanaian, I am proud that akan/ twi is a course at the Fordham University its also a reflection on me as a Ghanaian. However, those who dont have 600 years of culture to sell should be left alone to also identify themselves, thats all. people (sadly Ghanaians, not even foreigners) are intolerant of people of other tribes... the very moment a person identify him/herself you hear the tribal bashing. that is what the problems its. If you read my comment well you would know, that that i have no problem with her identifying herself as Ashanti. Some itendified himself as "Ayigbe" and people were up in arms against him and I didnt understand. Its the people who have no tolerance for other people's tribes that i spoke to. Personally, you cant stop me from identifying myself but i dont think it should even happen in the first place.
