However money needs to be earmarked in a separate budget for maintenance for the Universities as well.

Does anyone actually know if all these salary receipients are real, alive, employers? This day and age (21st century) we still do not have a unique identification system that is traceable...we are just morbor!!!

What percentage of the total budget is from student tuition. What do they do with the tuition. There should be accountability? Ghanaians always talk about pay-outs, but they do not account for monies received.

Lets look at the full budget requirement of the universities against what the government paid then we can judge. If the universities ask for a particular amount and the government paid less, what will u expect to happen. Meanwhile salaries are the first items on the list of expenditures in most organisations to be met before anything else.

According to the Minister of Education, there are "4,117 teaching staff in all the ten polytechnics and the eight major public universities teaching 181,404 students". This means one instructor to 44 students. This instructor/student ration is too high. Ideally it should be less than half that number. Even under stressful conditions, it should be not more than 30. The universities could use adjuncts, and advanced graduate students as tutors; they could cut down on the administrative staff and computerize services; they could use efficient means (Geo thermal power supply or solar energy); they could work better with businesses for research funding; they could utilize their alumni for fund raising; they could utilize their staff and administrators for fund raising). , etc.

TO THESE ESTABLISHED ROLES,HAVE THE UNIVERSITIES IN THE COUNTRY BEEN MAJOR AGENTS OF ECONOMIC GROWTH IHE COUNTRY.

IT IS A PITY THAT, ALMOST EVERYBODY THERE HAVE TURNED TO BE POLITICIANS AND WITHOUT THEIR SLIGHTEST EFFORTS TO BOOST PRODUCTY.

IS IT NOT A SHAME.

UNIVERSITIES OPERATE UNDER THE SAME UNIVERSAL LAW OF SUPPLY AND DEMAND OF INDUSTRIES.

HAVE OUR PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES BEEN TUNED, IN PRODUCIING GRADUUATES WITH KNOWLEDGE SKILLS IN THE AREAS OF MANUFACTURING TO MEET THE DEMANDS OF THE PRIVATE SECTOR IN THE MANUFACTURING.

UNLESS THE HIGHER INSTITUTIONS IN THE COUNTRY ARE OVERHAULED AND RESTRUCTURED TO MEET THE NOMS OF UNIVERSITIes WORLD,THE STATE OF GHANA WILL ONLY CONTINUE TO PAY THESE MENA AND WOMEN THEIR SALARIES FOR EASY LIFESTYLES IN THE COUNTRY.

NEVER SHOULD THE STATE ALLOW THIS TO CONTINUE FOR IT GOES TO DESTROY FUTURE BUDGETS OF THE NATION.

WHY DO WE STILL CONTINUE TO RUIN THE RESOURCES OF THE COUNTRY.

THERE HAVE TO BE HIGHEER EDUCATION RENEWAL, UNIVERSITIES WITH DRIVE,PURPOSE,ENERGY AND EQUIPPED TO PROPER IN NATIONAL ECONOMY OF TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGE AND CONFIDENT OF ITS PLACE IN THE WORLD.

UNLESS WE OWN THE THE FUTURE, UNLESS OUR VALUES ARE MATCHED BY A COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDING OF THE REALITIES WHICH ARE NOW UPON US AND THE NEXT ABOUT TO CONFRONT US WE WILL FAIL.

What should be the minimum requirement when recruiting lecturers into a tertiary institution? Is it a masters degree or a PhD with a course in education??

Professors in tertiary institutions must read GES directives. There are many important and useful GES directives which would help them.

GES banned all forms of corporal punishment in Educational institutions but there are reports that some tertiary institutions are still carrying out this practice. Asking students to kneel down and so on.

Lecturers in tertiary institutions must recognize the fact that students in these institution are adults.
