Why did't VRA make this information public until now? Intellectual dishonesty I call it. Secondly if the Min. of Energy had this information, why didn't they shut Valco down? How much has Valco contributed to the economy over the period? Did the President have the full picture or he was misled by some inteelectuals?
Even though a lot of damage has been caused, we cannot move forward if we do not take action against those responsible, if we don't, it will be like sweeping the dust under the carpet and we will repeat this same mistake if not in energy, somewhere else in the economy.

You would like Ghana to build a couple of power plants, as reserve, to help the situation but obviously they weren't going to be built in the amount of time needed to assist the most exhausted power generators - Hydro - which was already under strain.

Long time ago successive governments should have boosted the power sector by thinking 20 years ahead. These myopic leaders saw Ghana to be forever a third world country that will never develop. They saw only Accra as the hub for industrialisation forgetting entirely the rural areas where the bulk have travelled outside to find greener pastures due to their bad management of the nation. We have 7 great rivers and still sleep in darkness and the icing is to close Valco to use the energy. too many criminal in high positions. get the dead goat and the living wolfs out.

It was a choice. Either shutdown VALCO (in 2013) or deal with dumsor now.

Lesson Learned - Politicians, even in the United States, as a collective do what is expedient and keeps them office. It's the strong institutions outside of government - Think Tanks, Occupy's, Community Org's, NGO's that put light on issues and kicks the politicians butt into dealing with the long term future design of what Ghana's people need in order to be sustainable.
