  Small scale miners Do Not use Cyanide. It is used by large scale miners. Let's find dispassionate solutions to problems facing small scale mining. After all they bring employment to thousands of Ghanaians.

  Who is engaged in these minings? If it is Ghanaians then there is nothing illegal about it. Any Ghanaian can engage in any business venture that does not constitute stealing or encroaching on another's property.
  
  No Ghanaian is engaged in illegal mining unless it is on another persons property.

  According to the Ghana Mining Act, what 98% of these "small scale" miners are doing IS illegal. They are operating without a mining license, without permits, without paying any royalties or taxes and with zero regard for the environment or health and safety practices, ON other people's properties! That is, other companies, or the Gov't of Ghana hold the mineral rights to the ground they are working on (stealing the gold from).
  
  And it's not just Ghanaians involved of course... You haven't seen all the Chinese flocking back to Ghana over the past year...?
  
  Go drive around the countryside and witness the environmental disaster going on, and have a good long drink from a stream contaminated with mercury.
  
  Galamsey is good for short term chop money, and just a select few get rich from it. Long term, all will suffer from the effects.

  Water every where but none to drink. Small scale mining is dominated by Chinese immigrants. The problem is that our resources are not well managed. The land belongs to one illiterate man(king} who can't distinguish between apples and oranges. He only cares about wealth and power, he does not spend a minute in his whole life to think about the future of the children in his village. Where in the world can foreigners take over lands illegally and destroy their rivers, farms and abuse their young girls and boys? Do not sit in the comfort of your homes and offices and make speeches, some gov. officials must visit the affected areas and assess the damages and then find solutions.
