  My question is what are the plantations made of? Gmelina arboria, Tecktona grandis (Teak) or what? if you develop/plant trees at the expense of the public purse and cannot be harvested, and/or no discernible economic value can be derived from them, who do you think must pay for the maintenance bill?
  
  Timber from the Odum's, Mahogany and what not are long gone. They re depleted
  
  How did the "taungya" projects go?
  
  May be the eco-system with emphasis on attracting eco-warriors for tourism may help. Plantations for plantations sake for shelter in the forest when it rains?.
  
  Emphasise the need for tree planting in the urban/city areas - prevent flooding, better air quality etc.
