  The competition for high grade ferrous scrap is not going to end; it is rather going to become stiffer and prices will go up. Steel producers must look for local alternatives to scrap metal to stay competitive. The time is ripe for the local steel companies to produce iron nuggets from the three iron ores in Ghana. These nuggets can partially or wholly substitute for scrap in steelmaking, especially through the electric arc furnace (EAF) route.
