The best response is to take on the threat posed by the cement importers head on by lowering prices. But lowering prices of commodities to attract more custom is an alien concept in retail in Ghana.

Ghacem and Diamond cement are jealous and fear competition. We want more imported cement even from Afghanistan. Their cement cost too much. Shame unto them.

If these importers are able to bring in their products from far away China, meet their tax obligations, sell their products at a cheaper rate and still stay in business, then the local products are probably overpriced. But for these importers, a bag of cement would probably be selling around GHC 50 or more! What prevents GHACEM et al., from bringing down their prices to stay competitive?
