  The USD is down a little today relative to other major currencies, and yet the Cedi depreciated further relative to the USD.

  The frantic effort by the Bank of Ghana to stabilise the Cedi by selling US dollars is a short term solution and will not work.The demand for dollars is very high because Ghana imports almost everything under the Sun.Unless the fundamentals of our economy change in favour of local production to replace imported goods the currency will continue to depreciate for a long term. And we should remember that the present government has borrowed so much, confidence in the economy is very low and will continue to affect the currency.

  Ghana whould not have to import any food. To encourage the local economy to produce more food, the import duty on food should be increased making easier for local farmers to compete. The US and other major economies subsidize ...

  Ghana whould not have to import any food. To encourage the local economy to produce more food, the import duty on food should be increased making easier for local farmers to compete. The US and other major economies subsidizes farmers, why can't Ghana do the same? The subsidies for petrol should be eliminated and given to encourage farming. If you drive a car, you should be able to afford the unsubsidized petrol. The government has gotten things backwards. Didn't you study simple macro-economics in college? Oh, I forgot, the teachers are out driving their tro-tros instead to make a little extra cash. Sorry!
