Most of the money due to government goes into private pockets of those who collects it. Customs officials in all our entry points pockets huge sums of money, most companies have 2 receipts books where they record their transactions and copy some into another receipts which they will use for tax purposes, civil servants in government offices take their share too... The list goes on and one.
It's not about widening the tax net but it's about putting measures to make sure that those responsible for tax collection do an honest job and those who file for tax do it in a responsible manner.

The system is broken due to corruption. Customs take bribes from importers so they avoid paying the correct tax, foreigners are allowed to open shops without paying the correct fees and people still stupidly wonder why Ghana ... read full comment

The government has no will to cut the loopholes because they too are chopping.
Aren't Ghanaians tired of this hand to mouth style of managing the economy?! Tourism, exports, service sector, manufacturing...how many years haven't we known that this is how we build our economy but yet government and media and Ghanaians sit around like smiling idiots
