The Cedi needs to (at this time) settle at it's natural exchange rate. If the government had any sense of urgency or strategic thinking then it should start to consider how to build the foundations that will help to restructure the economy and stimulate growth (develop toursim to encourage hard currencies into Ghana and employment, reduce red tape for local businesses to set up, cut the waste in the ministries, support those local enterprises or locally based manufacturers by making imports harder for common goods/goods already in the system and on and on).

But of course, NDC is worried because if they implement the IMF requirements there is going to be a lot of unemployed, unhappy people come election year....hmmmm so what do you think is going to happen.

I suggested things NDC should look to do,but typically and not surprisingly I am called a doomster. Well if that is a doomster then I will take that title on will full vim....it doesn't bother me either way.

The currency is being artificially held up and the government does not have enough money to continue to do this and also pay its bills.

That is a fundamental problem...shown by ATOB's comment. Solutions needed but the problem needs to be understood too by EVERYBODY.

The fact of the matter is, the fundamentals does not support the process Wampah of BoG and Terkper of MoF have been instructed by John Mahama to do to stabilize the cedi.
It is a non-sustainable exercise and the injection of dollars whilst waiting for the cocoa syndicated loan and the donor in-flows and the bailout funds is a very tricky business, and should the NDC projected timelines change by even a day, the cedi will depreciate against the dollar by about 7-8 cedis to the dollar ie Ghc8:$1.
It is an artificial process and the system will respond to it because you can't rig the system. It is a credible process, a credible system and the fundamentals will expose you as stated by Dr. M. Bawumia the astute , brilliant and intelligent Economist and the incoming Vice President of Ghana.
