Well said Mr. President,Currently there is a deficit of about 35,000-50,000 tons of CPO per year in Ghana and this gap need to be filled and the only way is through importation.What the stakeholders should do in the interim is to recommend to government to set a CPO import quota to monitor how much can be imported into the country rather than importing additional tax on the deficit.In this case importors can not take advantage of the deficit and flood the market with outside CPO and the local industry will be protected. In going forward in the long run OPDAG and gorvernment should have a roundtable discussion to look into how best we can develop the industry to achievs self sufficiency in production because the CPO deficit is expected to reach 100,000 tons by 2024.
