  This advocate of free by-pass of roads should be very ignorant. The largest economy in the world is the US and in that country toll- booths are on every highway, before or after every major bridge. Travel and see is my candid advice to the gentleman calling for the scraping off toll booths. If he is complaining about delays,the best that he can call for is adequate measures to eliminate excessive delays.

  Toll highways are usually because someone needs an alternative and faster road to get somewhere, not when the highway in question is the only normal way to get out.

  Wrong big time. From DC to New York south to North and Vice versa, there is only one route no alternative and the tolls are on the beltway/ highways all the way through. There aren't other alternatives. You can skip MD and ...

  Wrong big time. From DC to New York south to North and Vice versa, there is only one route no alternative and the tolls are on the beltway/ highways all the way through. There aren't other alternatives. You can skip MD and go through PA ,but they have their tolls as well. They tolls are for the routine maintenance of these highways, which are major costly investments.

  Let me tell you that there are not even a single toll booth on any highway in the US rather the toll booths are on interstate roads and Freeways and aside that a state like Colorado there is no toll booth but there are few toll roads,you don't see anybody stops to pay toll in Colorado,there is nobody collecting toll money as you see in the East Coast,Colorado does it in advance way.
  Next time don't generalize things in the US,the fact that you see toll booths in New York does not mean they have it all over the US.
  
  That said,I think this Awoosah guy made some good points but messed it up with his message that there are people who live in Accra for years but don't pay toll, that they should be made to pay for toll which is foolish,if you don't use toll road you don't pay for toll.

  You are not exactly right. We all live in the US. Maybe you state of Colorado is different and I won't comment on what id done there, but the east coast, there are interstate tolls as well as inner city tolls for roads leading to tunnels and bridges... the tolls are there for the same reasons that we have them in Ghana, and yes during rush hours they cause major delays, but there are express lanes for people with passes ( prepaid ). Maybe that system could be adopted in Ghana as well. Ghana complains about thing in Ghana but is mute in Ogya Krom why?... we have bad attitude and that is our major problem. No ethics is what we do. Lacking professionalism compounds the issue. Have a blessed day.

  I think that we Ghana can do it differently by collecting road construction and maintenance fees through the filling stations. Ask me why? people with five to twenty cars, car sellers and each an everyone who owes a mobile equipment on less does not buy fuel will need to contribute through the filling stations. Ghana can do it differently from the States who are more organised in dealing with corruption.The tolls in Ghana collect a lot daily but how much reaches the government? How much does the government also minus before updating data. I think we need to remove the tolls and go the way the Gentle Man has suggested.

If the toll booths stay then l suggest the job are given to disabled people rather than these macho men and women who sit in the booths collecting money.

  In most developed countries in Europe motorists buy tool tickets stickers which they place on specific position of the windscreen. Electronic devices positioned at various places of the motorways read these stickers as drivers pass under them without the need to stop. If a motorist doesn't use the motorway no payment is made. This is more credible than penalise tro-tro drivers and others who do not use the highway. Prices of petro should be stand alone. What happens if a useless government like the present one decides to increase the toll charge at a time when in Ghana petro prices go up when prices in the world market are falling to mere $46 per barrel. Soon the price of petro will start to rise and the government will be the first to add 25% to the price followed by transport, food prices and every services.

  There must be more booths. Elsewhere in the world booths are used to collect tolls. The roads to and after the booths must be expanded to about five to ease traffic. God help Ghana.

  All those people clamouring for increase in number of toll booths please ask yourself what has become of the monies they have collected ao far.If you get to know the money that pass through these toll booths a day and the amount that is declared,you will be shocked.Ghanaians are being robbed by their own people ànd yet we cannot open our eyes wide enough to see.There is really money in the system but it depends on being at the right place at the tight time.
