  STOP BLOWING THESE EMPTY HORNS. This award is just propaganda and valueless on the eyes of those who know the current operational realities at our ports. Stop parading these bogus awards@

  Way to go GPHA . We hope this infrastructure improvement does not mean that tariffs will go up too much because that defeats the purpose of the hard work. It reduces vessel calls.

  We also think the private sector must be given a chance to grow since their role has been dwindling steadily. It is important to have a mix of public private service to ease some of the labour load from the port authority and also offer experience to private sector to move the port along the public sector because that is the best case situation for ports who are leading the world. The private sector too must be a mix of local and foreign companies so that the industry can grow to world standards. Too much emphasis of private sector is not good. And too much emphasis of the public sector is neither good. But a balance creates competitive edge the marine industry and inherent advantage that sticks with time.
  
  Kudos GPHA. Kudos to all the leaders there that are working hard with their headman to get the ports up and running. We hope the expansion projects too will seek to involve both foreign, indigenous and GPHA in the mix to keep on top the marine industry.

  The Takoradi Port needs massive upgrades to better serve the booming extractive sector (mining equipment & logistics, bauxite, manganese, clinker, cement, granite, oil & gas, etc) and the vital cocoa sector. Currently, there are too many double handling of cargo going on at the Takoradi Port because of its limited capacity to berth big Post Panamax ships due to its shallow draft and inadequate land side infrastructure. Takoradi Port could use infusion of capital to improve its operations for the benefit of the Ghanaian economy and the west African regional intermodal transportation system and network. Kudos to GPHA but there is much more room for improvements.
