Please, tell us how the yield output was measured following the application of biochars. Please, I know Ghanaian farmers measure yield in sacks, bowls, olonkas, etc., which are not standardized. How did they actually measured an increase in yield accurately. Don't rely on those NGOs to tell you anything and you will believe it and start writing in your journalistic format thinking it is agriculturally scientific. Was there a clear statistical evidence that there was not any difference between biochar treatments and control? Who measured that, and what was the range for the yield output for various biochars? Journalist must know that there is a difference between scientific statements and raw journalistic English. Stop saying things that you yourself have no idea of.

I sense a lot of unanswer questions from the way this project is or was set up and implemented. First off, against what were the yield measured? How was the experiment from which the data gathered was designed? I understand that rice husk biochar was inoculated with other treatments. Could you elaborate on the process. Also, how did you gathered the data used in the analysis? How was the effects of biochar different on yield? How did you compare that increase yield was linked to biochar rather than compost, chicken menure, etc? Did you apply rice husk biochar only without any other treatment as a separate treatment by itsekf and test how that compare with biochar inoculated with manure, compost, etc.? It will be interesting to see your full report. Lastly, over what period of time was this project conducted? Did it occur over one or several growing season or just once? Biochar, if apply only has the tendency to first take nutrients from the soil and over time gradually starts to release the store nutrients in the biochar product; that is, if the biochar wasn't inoculated with any other source of nutrients. In this instance, crop yield tend to decrease due to low soil nutrients given the recalcitrant nature of the biochar product. However, if biochar are inoculated with an additional source of nutrients prior to application to the soil, than the added nutrients are readily available to the crop upon application in which case yield may substantially increased. So, when you compare the yield of crop with treated biochar against untreated biochar, you can deduce whether or not the primary biochar product has an effect on yield during the first growing season compare with biochar treated with compost, manure or both. You could do a multi-seasonal study to test the stability of the treatment in the soil, yield and other parameters of interest.
