Why not PROSECUTE, FINE and jail some of the COMPANIES and their executives, individually and severally, to serve as a painful deterrent?
As it is now, all they need is give you government officials and the local chiefs a little bribe, and all will be forgiven and forgotten.
And which judges are we going to trust to deliver justice for the people anyway?
We're damned and doomed.

Mr. Ayariga, this should have been the first clause in the granting of permits to these mining companies. THE HEALTH OF THE PEOPLE OF GHANA AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL DEFECT OF SUCH MINING ACTIVITIES SHOULD BE THE FIRST CONSIDERATION IN THE GRANTING OF LICENSES. The Ghana goverment should rigidly introduce and enforce strong and effective laws to regulate mining activities in the country. In the long run most of these mining companies will pack bag and baggage and go back to their home countries. But then what about people of Ghana and the ill-effect of that they leave behind ? We should not waste any more time in introducing legislatures to control mining activities.
