We would not mind paying a realistic road toll if it were not for the fact that the revenue is all stolen by the Big Men. The deplorable roads are killing people.

Plug the loop holes in revenue generation, and you need no further increases in tolls.

For Christ sake these tolls create too much traffic jam. The government needs to balance the revenue with stress and economic slowdown of these tolls. The government should do away with them and find alternative means to generate funds. In the advanced countries, toll booths are sited in the middle of motor ways far from the cities. May be 5p levied on fuel will generate more money than these nuisance road blocks.

That is how pervasive corruption has been in Ghana. And then we blame only the Government high-ups for the crime. We are all culpable. Some of us even volunteer to offer the bribes in many instances of corruption.
Long Live Ghana!!!

If you concentrate your efforts to build roads that lead to just a few cars plying it, then eventually you will ask for increases in tolls that are not sensible, but because you're knocked into a corner, have no choice but ask such tolls. The question is are we investing in the right areas of transport. light rail networks within cities should rather be our focus. Where such networks can be used to truly move the mass around, and as well levy the needed charges. I will rather be positioning for move city rail networks over fancy roads as a priority. This way we score two key things with our transport program. (1) Help move people through disciplined transport, (2) decongest roads off buss and "trotros". Once that is done, we will notice fancy roads will not be needed, rather we can then channel our efforts to demarcate existing roads well, build the needed walk ways, cover them gutters and have an equally disciplined city road network. This is the smartness in managing a transport system. The government is repeatedly going about it the wrong way. Investing millions into flyovers and interchanges to help decongest something that keeps becoming a bottleneck with maintenance and more.
Also the issue of getting the funds back becomes difficult this way as the DVLA and the Motor unit of the police system cannot even implement systems for levying taxes and checks on vehicles. What a shame!

They should check the loop holes at the toll booth. In fact it is better to computerise it than to put people there. The guys assigned to such places are naking a lot of fortunes to the detriment of the nation.
