  My Uncle told me of the difficult times they Cocoa farmers in Ashanti region faced while the PNDC regime tried to make Volta the dominant cocoa producing hub.He said many were cheated by buyers who paid very little for their beans while the government shifted almost all assistance to Volta region.During that time many farmers cut down their farms to plant something else because they were starving.
