  Plant breeding, with all its benefits of increasing varieties and resistance to pests and increased yields, must not be at the expense of our Farmers' inalienable right to choose and till any crop or seed of their choice.

  Plant breeding, with all its benefits of increasing varieties and resistance to pests and increased yields, must not be at the expense of our Farmers' inalienable right to choose and till any crop or seed of their choice.
  
  We should not succumb to the lure of early demise of poverty, as these Scientists claim, to sell our right to the original seeds, or risk the invasive suppression of our native seeds by the newly introduced varieties, only to be coerced by some patent holder of the new varieties to buy from them or starve.
  
  The lessons in the USA and Europe as to how the Mosantos and Sargentos deal with the Farmers must be learnt.
  
  Meanwhile, the Bill must guarantee Government's full responsibility to provide the Nation a Seed Bank that could perpetually store our original seeds before allowing any enities, especially, foreign, to introduce their varieties into our Agricultural chain.
  
  If we fail to embed into the Bill such protective measures, we would be submitting to a possible form of Neo-Colonialism with Food being the ultimate weapon to coerce us.
  
  Yeah, yeah, yeah! I know using the term 'Neo-Colonialism' raises some eyebrows that I may be some nutty, fruitcake Nkrumahist letting off some 'ignorant hot air'.
  
  But we need to wise up, and not take everything as some political ideological effusions. The truth is that some facts remain just that, Facts, whether we like them or not. The terminologies used do not change what they really are.
  
  We need enough Food Security guarantees in the Bill to have it passed. Or, we are better off without it.

Even with the current varieties of crop that you may consider as poor yield and for which reason you are promoting the so called improved varieties,the levels of post harvest is so high.So what do you think will happen when the high yielding varieties are introduced.
  The researchers are pushing for the plant breeders bill for their interest.
