Gov't should Think Twice! we don't need a national Airline.Lets do our best to create a healthy platform for the local airlines to grow. You have 17.5% VAT on fuel and Ghana's fuel price is the highest in the sub region. In the last few years airlines like,Swiss,United airlines,Lafthansa,Namibia,Virgin,Royal Jordanian and a lot more have seized operation into Accra due to high operating cost.Even the local airlines don't have hangars to carry out aircraft maintenance, which is unacceptable and dangerous.Ghana airports have demolised the old hangars in order to build a new terminal,my question is how can you have a teaching hospital without a Lab or theatre. We could have given other airlines day slots instead of night slots, this way you dont need a new terminal. It's waste of money and could have been diverted into upgrading airports like Sunyani,Wa,Takoradi etc.Passenger figures have declined over the last 2 years. When all these airlines have stoped operation into Accra, where do expect their layed employees to go?Accra is only very active between 6pm and 1030pm so why the worry and rush of a new terminal.Starbow and AWA had their own handling services and that has been withdrawn from them, now they have to use aviance buses to and from the aircraft for boarding and desembarkation which is $150 for one trip only.My question is are we encouraging growth or we want the local companies to die.People are appointed in postions at Ghana airports and i must say they have no knowledge about aviation,is like employing an accountant,a plumber or a teacher to head Korle-bu Lab or say the Library or Administration of the University of Ghana Legon,it's impossible, lets get people who are aviation oriented and perhaps invite the FAA federal aviation administration in the USA to conduct an outside audit of Ghana airports and then see our wrongs.
