We import virtually all the sugar we consume. The paramount thing would be to ensure that the sugar produced is of the FINEST QUALITY. The fact of the matter is this factory would not be able to meet the national demand for sugar. In the short run concentrate on local consumption ...if we make use of all that is produced domestically, that would be a major boost to trade deficit/trade balance etc. This notion in GH recently that marketing/branding is everything is erroneous! - branding is just a component of an important "mix", not the silver bullet - quality and efficiency in this case are key. It may be worth noting that currently the overwhelming bulk of sugar consumed in GH is generic (ie. unbranded)

The branding of the sugar produced from Komenda is very important. Equally important is the reorientation of the Ghanaian mind to respect and prefer Ghana made products. What are the plans for that?
