Joe everybody in life want development and competition is good as well for consumers and the stakeholders as well nobody question that but one has to have regulations to guide how the industry should operate to be fair for the riders the drivers the system owners and all stakeholders involved but I don't think uber wants to be on this page uber want you to work like a slave not until regulations is been put in place to protect everyone involved this is no good for the society at large because it cannot afford it imagine one have put in 70 to 80,000.00 miles on a vehicle a year the world at large can't afford this we all share the resources together therefore the world cannot allow one company uses that much resources for it's self interest

Please stick to traditional taxis. This Obroni taxi concept will not work in Ghana because we have a different mindset. 419 drivers will mess this up. We don't yet have the infrastructure to support high tech business models ...

The Committed Drivers Association of Ghana should rather take the opportunity to brainstorm for new innovative services, to compete head-on with Uber.

The world does not stand still; technology marches on and there is not much we can do about that.

Uber itself had the scare of their lives when Google introduced the self-driving car. Rather than panic, moan and groan, and plan to sue Google, they QUICKLY teamed up with Carnegie Mellon University (the "Mecca" of computer science), to develop their own self-driving taxis.

Today, Uber is ready to introduce the self-driving taxi ever in the world.

First, The Committed Drivers Association of Ghana should choose a name with an easy, catchy acronym: like "RIDE". CDAG might be hard to remember, unless we right it as C-DAG ("See Dag).

Then CDAG should find ways to compete with Uber. There should be a CDAG website and a CDAG app on EVERY phone in Ghana. That's for starters.

Next, CDAG should think of what they can provide that Uber cannot:

-free water with rides
-monthly subscription
-family plans
-free trips to hospital emergencies
-free calls while riding
-free movies during rides

these are just a tiny few of ideas.

They do not turn up when hailed on the App and they still charge, they do not work at night, the driver shown on the APP is not the person who is driving the car if they do turn up.

I disagree that Uber is poor in Accra. With the ability to rate drivers and provide comments back on each ride, those BAD uber drivers will get cut out of the system. I've already known a driver who had to go through 're-training' because of poor scores. What choice do you have with a taxi driver? Some don't care what service they provide because it will never come back to hurt them.

Uber should provide some healthy competition to cabs and make the cabs at least perform better. Instead, it's looking like this sector is being driven in this race to the bottom as less protections from unlicensed drivers, less pay for drivers, insurance, protections for the consumer in case they get hurt, etc.

Uber sounds great and trendy but look at what's going on in cities that it is well established in.

uber has not been very helpful to taxi drivers wherever they've been be it San Francisco or Kansas City.

Uber is a cheater- charging drivers unnecessary fees and commissions while not contributing to their bottom line.

the commitment with Uber is enormous-their adverts/commercials are not realistic- no body has been able to earn the $90K a year they claim- they don't a record of anyone making that much.

When you set-up your uber account via a phone, it gives you the option to select cash or a credit card. I already have an uber account from the US and it was set-up only with a credit card. However, in Ghana, after I selected my trip and BEFORE I call for an uber driver, I can change the payment option on the app from credit card to cash. The first time I didn't do it by mistake and wrote uber. They GAVE me a credit on my card !!!!

First, the rates are lower especially for longer trips. Before even taking a trip, you can get an estimate through the app.

Secondly, uber cars need to be reviewed by the company before the driver can use it. The cars are far better than the death traps that they call taxis.

Thirdly, as a women or foreigner, you know the name of the person and car that will be picking you up. If the driver is foolish enough to do anything, they can be traced. Taxi drivers???

Fourthly, you can rate your uber driver. Poor ones will get kicked out of the system. Taxi drivers keep on driving no matter how they act.

Fifthly, Uber drivers can come right to your door. With the app, they can pick you up from exactly where you're located. You don't have to walk out to a busy street to wait for a taxi.

Finally, the pricing is based on distance and time. You will get the roughly the same rate no matter what driver you get. With a taxi driver, rates can vary and if you don't know the 'normal' price, you can get overcharged by a taxi driver.

I think uber would be good for government taxing as well. What taxi driver pays income tax? They pay a monthly fee for having a license but this could be levied on uber drivers as well. This could be a good money maker for government. They only have to go to one place. (i.e. uber) to collect a flat tax on on rides. They'll collect a lot more money then they do now .

No nonsense from any disgruntled Taxi driver will stop UBER. Even in Nairobi, BBC has told us they have introduced helicopter UBERs to assist in the traffic jam. Rather work and get your last few coins before you go extinct.
