Does Mornah have a credible alternative. The VRA is mismanaged, debt ridden and performing poorly. Ghana is broke so can Mornah explain how you invest and revive VRA without government spending money that it does not have. The fact that Mornah did not suggest a feasible alternative based on reality shows this is him mouthing off for attention and why he is not president.

Already electricity is so expensive in ghana Privatizing the power companies has not benefit us in our country power became so unaffordable because the investor is just thinking of his pocket and will run it to make the top dollar and the consumer will end up bearing the cost. Therefore in ghana where it's still in the hands of the goverment they should put measures in place to manage it properly. Listing it means more expensive power because you have to bring in private investors.

African girl, I think you are over simplifying this issue. NDC has run down VRA, and because there are no checks and balances the actions they took weren’t stopped. A private company (listed on stock exchange) has shareholders and has to account for its actions or its management gets sacked. Also government can establish regulators/regulations to act as a check. A private company may charge more (in order to make a profit) but then at least Ghanaians have a better chance to receive the services they are PAYING FOR unlike what has been going on for the last few years. Remember the issue is that public ownership of industry is only as effective as the competence of those in power (see VRA, Ghana Airways and on and on)
Also if you want greater competition in terms of pricing for energy then Ghana needs to diversify its energy sources. So allow access to the market for alternative energy (solar, wind, etc) and also encourage/incentivise private business (that are large enough to do so) to install their own energy sources (e.g solar panels). Ultimately once Ghanaians start to take control of this issue via private business or individual choice the better because 60 years of independence and government hasn’t developed Ghana’s capability as it should have.

Inexperienced and incompetent leadership is what has destroyed Ghana up to date. Privatisation can address some of these anomalies.
