  Spare parts are imported goods that you buy with hard currencies.Therefore,the prices will remain high unless the Cedi is stable and cheaper.If the Cedi continues to fall everyday,I don't see how spare parts dealers and other importers will reduce prices of their wares.Thank you.

  The spare parts should be taxed 50% import duty to discourage inferior and usually accident vehicles parts. These have been deemed unsafe in the US, UK, Canada, Germany etc. They are the cause of accidents on our roads.

  The spare parts should be taxed 50% import duty to discourage inferior and usually accident vehicles parts. These have been deemed unsafe in the US, UK, Canada, Germany etc. They are the cause of accidents on our roads.
  Some of the parts especially those with receptacles have traces with cancer causing chemicals but in Ghana, you find dealers holding them with their bare hands and eating kenkey the next minutes.
  
  But we want free cheap things at the expense of human lives.

  Taxes are imposed on business activities not only for revenue generating purposes. The Opposite of taxation is subsidy. When policy makers or managers of an economy realize a particular activity that they think may adversely affect the economy, they use taxation as form of disincentive to discourage it. When they want to encourage a particular activity because of its favourable effects on the economy, they encourage such by way of incentives such as subsidies, exemptions etc.
  
  It was in light of the above, to discourage the spare part dealers from bringing over used parts from outside into our economy with their attendant imported inflations, that the previous government put taxes on their importation in order to put them to check. It is not necessarily to raise money. Please get this. Policies, when being taken, we beg our leaders to consider the good of the general majority of Ghanaians , but not for interest of few. The cut in the import duty on the spare parts will do more harm to Ghana's economy than good.
