We now only have one small private gold refinery. Our gold ore is mined by foreign companies and then sent to Switzerland and South Africa for refining. We do not even control the refining processes, so we cannot tell whether these companies declare the full production of refined gold for tax purposes. They certainly pay little or nothing by way of taxes to our national coffers.

All our major export commodities, with the exception of cocoa, are controlled by foreign companies and suffer the same fate as gold.

Nana Addo has done nothing to address this fundamental problem with our economy.
