Energy Minister meets management of NEDCO

The Minister for Energy, John Peter Amewu is in Tamale in the Northern Region to meet with the management of Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) to hold discussion with them in order to get himself acquainted with the challenges facing the power distribution company.

The Minister is being accompanied by his deputy Dr Mohammed Amin, Chief Director at the Ministry Mr Lawrence Apaalse, Mr Solomon Adjetey a director at the Ministry as well as other officials from the Ministry.

At a brief meeting with the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, Hon. John Peter Amewu said, "We're here to meet with NEDCO to find out what is really happening because the interruptions in the electricity supply in the North has become an worrying to us as a government."

"The President is very particular about power supply so we don't want a situation whereby there may be problem but NEDCO would not let us know or the public know and the situation would persist," he said.

On his part, the Northern Regional Minister Salifu Saeed thanked the minister and his entourage for beginning the visit to power sector agencies by starting from the Northern Region where NEDCO operate.

He praised the management of NEDCO for being proactive anytime there was power outrage in the region.

"The officials of NEDCO are doing very well despite the challenges they are faced with," he said.

He appealed to the Ministry to champion the development of solar energy in the Northern Region stressing that the region has full potential for solar energy.

He explained that this would make it possible for health facilities especially CHIPS Compounds in the area to have uninterrupted power supply.

Hon Peter Amewu as part of the visit would use the opportunity to commission some projects executed by NEDCO.
